    Poor Little John!!

When you are bitten, you turn into a flying monkey? But why–does Zelena have a reason to want a monkey army?

of course why would you not want a monkey army? oh and she is eventually going to come out of the shadows and eclare herself mayor of storybrooke, because as everyone knows no such thing as due process in that town.

Maybe she wants a monkey army, or maybe she just gets off on “killing” the SB locals.

Maybe John wasn’t even supposed to get scratched up like that and infected with monkey fever, (it just happened when he struggled), and he’s a unique case and Zelena has just been using the monkeys to collect people for some reason.

I get that they are Zelena’s minions but what use does she have for them in SB besides making sure people can’t leave? Is her goal to turn everyone into monkeys? Or is that just a happy side effect?

I think its kind of a side effect of what Walsh and other Winged monkeys are–they’re were-creatures, and its in their nature to turn others.  Like it is with Vampires.  Zelena doesn’t necessarily have to be depending on an army of minions for any purpose, but I do think it is kind of a side-effect but it does give her an edge.    It helps her to keep people from escaping, gives her power over the town as magic does have a price.  She can only bend Rumple or use the dagger with him (if she has it just yet) so far, and a troop of mindless monkeys might make policing her town easier.  Makes it hard for people to shoot or attack them if they’re worried its their friends and still hoping to kill the Alpha one to cure everyone (if it works that way).

So she gains a set of servants to just order around and ones that are less likely to get slaughtered by the townsfolk.

I wonder if Emma would have gotten scratched by Walsh while in monkey form would she have turned into a monkey too. Or since she’s the savior, she’s immune.

It seems to be just if you get bitten, not scratched. But I like the idea of Savior Immunity
