remember Hook said to Emma it’s good that her heart broke because it means it still works? because he knew that Neal will “die” and Emma’s true love for him will save him.
also in the beginning when he told her maybe there is someone else you love if you get your memories back, he was talking about Neal. also, Neal probably knew that he was going to “die” to save Emma and Henry, but he might not have known that he can come back. so he told Emma that he is sorry it didn’t work out with Walsh.
I THINK HOOK AND RUMPELSTILTSKIN ARE WORKING TOGETHER TO GET NEAL BACK.Rumpelstiltskin probably met Hook in the EF and even though he was mad, he can still get his head on straight between bouts of madness

Keeper Of Tamara's Taser , Jafar's Staff, Kitsis’s Glasses , Ariel’s Tail, Dopey's Hat , Peter Pan’s Shadow, Outfit, & Pied Cloak,Red Queen's Castle, White Rabbit's Power To World Hop, Zelena's BroomStick, & ALL MAGICI can see both of them tempted to try to bring Neal back – and even be wiling to work on the one thing they both want back…but I don’t think in the end they will be able to do so. I honestly don’t think the death is a fake out. Much as I hate to say it. I would love that storyline but I just don’t believe it will come to fruition
