ParticipantOkay, the water was never returned to the Well. Yes, Amara died. Yes, Jafar became a genie. But he never lost his power. Does this mean that people from the main show are not restricted? Can people like Rumple and Regina resurrect their loved ones (*cough*NEAL*cough*)?

KeymasterOkay, the water was never returned to the Well. Yes, Amara died. Yes, Jafar became a genie. But he never lost his power
It took me rewatching the episode to get this right but here goes
When Amara collapses, she reaches out her hand and touches the well, thus surrendering herself to Nyx. This is why she “dissovles” into a puddle. Therefore she has done what she said she would do–she returned the water. The debt is repaid.
Cyrus and Alice fool Jafar by making him think that the water must still be returned. Hence Cyrus picking up that little handful and then dashing to the well. Jafar grab a small bit of that water (that has already been returned) and takes it for himself.
Jafar now owes Nyx a debt because he took water from her. She turns him into a genie and takes away his INFINITE powers. The only powers he has now is of a genie.
So now the laws are fixed and everything he did is undone, hence why Ana died.

ParticipantPoor Ana will have died three times when it’s all done. And she wears red. How very Star Trek.

ParticipantMaybe Nyx’s gift of the water was ironic punishment for the good guys tricking a god into doing their bidding.

But if Ana died and the laws are back in place, she should be dead and no magic water should be able to bring her back. Basically they are saying no magic can bring back the dead…. But then clearly showing us magic water revive someone from the dead? Sounds like a PLOT HOLE to me. Unless the laws weren’t reversed then it would make sense.

ParticipantMaybe Ana wasn’t quite dead yet but was dying so they got her the water in time.

No she was dead. Once the spell Jafar and Amara cast broke, when the water was returned, everything he did that broke the laws of magic ended.
She was dead and was laid to rest but the Nyx gave them water in thanks for restoring balance and because “her time wasn’t up”

While I think this is the answer…. And I don’t mean to over analyze things… But that sounds like crap… At the end of the day, Ana died. Who the fudge is Nyx to say “Lol, no. She’s dead but bring her back because I said so lulz #YOLACOT (You Only Live A Couple Of Times)” Unless Nyx is literally some kind of all powerful god who can negate death, or fate incarnate (like the one of the three fates from Hercules) I don’t think she can just be above the laws of magic and reverse death when she deems it okay.
Personally, and I’m sorry to say this, but Cyrus and Ana died. Bringing them back. While loving and noble (atleast on Cyrus’s part) is… Morally wrong? Selfish? Dead should be dead v_v I know a lot of you all will disagree with me but in the end, I think after Jafar was defeated and the water returned, all magic that was done will the laws changed by both Amara and Jafar should have been reversed. If the magic that made Ana think she was in True Love with Jafar was considered a curse and broken by a kiss, why didn’t the kiss also take away her life? Just thinking out loud >>
The laws of magic are a good idea. They set boundaries. To break them is heinous to me. And after all was said and done, I think things should have gone back to way they are supposed to be. I’m sorry… I’m in a bad mood today >_>

One of the problems is that while her name is Nyx, they never established her (maybe) as THE Nyx–goddess of night in Greek myth. So, for example, we had the Grendel in episode 3 “Forget Me Knot” but he was NOT the Grendel of Beowulf legend–and we have no idea how he got that name or if he is even related in any way to the legend. Nyx, the Greek goddess, was the mother of Death (Thanatos). Thanatos himself was a more minor god in literature and cult worship, and was rather indiscriminate toward victims.
In some myths Nyx is the mother of the fates (The Morai) and in others…she’s not. But even if in this version she is the mother of the Fates, the gods were still subject to them (complicated…).
What I’m saying here..is that we simply have no idea who Nyx really is. She might be a goddess but strictly speaking the gods shouldn’t be able to over ride death/fate in that matter.
(Another issues is that the water wasn’t said to bring back life..only save the dying, but Ana was REALLY dead)
Personally, and I’m sorry to say this, but Cyrus and Ana died
Ana did die but Cyrus was only wounded by Jafar. That’s why Momma Rabbit thought she could help heal Cyrus; it was a life threatening wound, but he hadn’t died yet.
The laws of magic are a good idea
I said this is my reaction to the episode and I do stand by it: the “dead is dead” rule is officially the biggest joke in the Onceverse. The amount of magical handwaving as of late–coconut, magical waters, black goo–is a little..ok, a lot…plot devicey.
I love Ana and I’m glad she is getting her second chance but at some point Adam and Eddy do need to stop messing with their rules.
