    Jonathan!

    Were you surprised? Disappointed?

Is there more to Zelena’s father than we know? Or is he just a gardener?

Thoughts overall on this new “member of the family?”

I’m really happy that he’s just a guy. A tool, to be sure, but just a guy.

I’m totally okay with him being a rando jerk, but I’m hung up on HOW magical Z is. How does a jerko gardener and the miller’s peasant daughter produce the most magical creature of all time? I’m sure we’re done with the storyline, but it does make me wonder if he could be a wizard of sorts.

I’m guessing that Cora’s side is VERY magical and we have yet to learn about that.

My own headcanon is that Cora’s mother was really Morgan Le Fay of Arthurian legend.

I’m going with the fact that Cora would have been seething with hatred and jealousy of Eva and Jonathan for the majority of her pregnancy, and it affected the baby. Zelena absorbed all that negative energy, and when combined with her genetic predisposition for magic, she became a magic baby.

Either that or she got zapped with magic lightening when she was sucked up in the magical twister.

My own headcanon is that Cora’s mother was really Morgan Le Fay of Arthurian legend.

Funny thing, made a note while watching, that some day Jonathan might turn out to be Merlin in his second Sturm und Drang years (known as Storm and Stress,  though Drang is better translated as impulse or urge or drive… aka wild years), who had just come back broken hearted and disillusioned from his hundred of years lasting trip through the worlds looking unsuccessfully for his blue flower Nimue (or Viviane, The Lady of the Lake, not the one we saw, another one) who meanwhile had become the Blue Fairy and accidentally created the smoke monster of the lake searching for her lost love. The monster later became known as the Dark One…

Jonathan was some enchanter, here in the sense of charming is way into Cora’s bed, but who knows.

(the blue flower was a core motif of German Romanticism, a symbol for desire, love, for seeking for the infinite and unreachable, for sehnsucht aka longing as C.S. Lewis correctly understood it; Sturm und Drang was a precurser of Romanticism)

    ¯\_(?????? ?)_/¯

hmm. wouldnt it have been cooler if Jonathan had been a stable boy pretending to be a prince, instead of a gardener? thats how i would have written it.

Magic always comes with a price, so I pay with visa.

Like that. Even more so because it was episode 18 of season 01 we met Regina’s stable boy. Could have been such a nice nod to it.

I’m totally happy with the way things turned out. Here I was hoping the father would be a noble disguised as a commoner. Turns out it was a commoner disguised as a noble!

I think him being a gardener was close enough to him being a stable boy (royal servant) without it being completely repetitive.

Alright well now I’m even more convinced.

That would have been a good twist

    Hadn’t thought of that one
