I was upset that they killed Charming off to cast the curse, and while I agree that it was a bit of a cop out, I think it actually kind of romantic that they now truly share a heart. I would guess this now means if one dies (one half of the heart stops beating) then the other will as well. Like a romantic version of Chang and Eng.
