So Regina wants a “Happy Ending”. Like who? Like Charming and Snow, who were cursed at the birth of their child? They lost their child for decades, and were ripped from their home, and forced into a life of fighting monsters in a podunk? For what it’s worth, she has friends and family now.
She’s upset that Marian is alive? Boo hoo. Part of redemption is living with the consequences of your actions. She has a lot of deaths to reckon for. Because of Emma and Hook, miraculously, she doesn’t have Marian’s blood on her hands. And she is going a long way to redeem herself. But the fact is, she led a murderous life. She has to face the consequences. Magical shortcuts will not redeem her.
And who among us is living a happy ending? We still have our ups and downs, every single day. What would a “Happy Ending” look like for Regina. Would she be in a constant state of bliss? If she lived happily ever after with Robin, would that mean that they would never argue, never want for anything, never disagree? She needs to adjust her expectations.

1) Like you said, no one has a definite happy ending.
2) She actually has her life pretty good. I mean, she has Henry that loves her and finally remembers her, she has Emma who is sort of her friend. She has the support of Snow and Charming, who she tried to kill a lot of times and yet somehow they forgave her and mostly trust her now. Speaking of which, 30 years ago she was almost excuted because of all the crimes she did and now not only she’s alive but also she’s not in prison and living in a giant mansion. But of course a guy she was dating for a couple of weeks left her so her life is completely miserable.
3) From what she said in 4×01 it seems like she only tried to be good because she thought good guys get happy endings. What she’s saying is “I only did good things because I thought it would bring me something. Now that I don’t get what I want screw other people or morallity I’ll just return to being bad.” I know that she decided not to kill Marian but it still tells me something about her redemption. She still feels like someone owns her something for not murdering people.
4) Does she seriously think the writer of the book made her a villain?!?
You know what I can't continue with the dead people brought back to life list I'm out of space in the signature and now we have an underworld arc this is to much I quit why do you bring so many people back to life OUAT WHHHYYYY

This is my biggest issue with Operation Mongoose. Regina and Rumple and Hook were not villains because of a book, they were villains because of their actions. So to hear Regina say stuff like “the book made me a villain” is just frustrating. And what is only slightly more frustrating is when Henry agreed with her that the book got it wrong.

October 23, 2014 at 3:55 pm #287094SlurpeezParticipantI really hope Henry is set straight in the course of season 4. I think Regina’s next step on the road to recovery is realizing she is responsible for her decisions and her destiny, not a book. I hope that through Operation Mongoose, she learns this lesson and passes it along to Henry. That is my hope, but whether it actually goes that way is another thing indeed. I still want to give Regina the benefit of the doubt though, seeing how much progress she made in season three. Arguably, Regina has mad e the most steady progress so far (insofar as she hasn’t killed anyone in quite a long time). Hopefully, she won’t revert too much.

I’m not a big fan of this storyline either. I despise Henry working Rumple and him agreeing with Regina. I’m fine with Regina finding redemption. I do like her. But I think instead of searching out the book’s author she should search out for some self-actualization.

I’ve learned to just blame Adam and Eddy for the corruption of everything….can we just all enjoy the fact that Henry is finally taking Regina’s side for once? I mean…it’s the first time in the series really he’s been on her side with any plan. The Book plot is terrible, and a terrible excuse for bonding, but it’s all we’ve got. I would have much preferred a more Parent Trap type of plot between Henry and Roland, but hey….can’t have everything on TV, that’s what Once taught me. But at least we get interaction between the boy and the mother who raised him.

THIS I’m all in favor of. I just need them to stop saying that a book made the villains… villains
