It’s also possible that Ursula could be Poseidon’s sister who

It says daughter of Poseidon, unless you mean Triton’s sister.

Ariel said she hadn’t been seen for over 1000 years. I don’t know how long mermaids live or how quick they age, but 100 years sounds a lot older than Ariel’s aunt

Well in the original story, mermaids were soulless creatures who could live for centuries and turned into foam when the died. If its the same, then its possible that Ursula could have lived that long but just be in hiding somewhere.

Also why was Ursula so tentacley in both Regina’s interpretation and the statue yet current Ursula was very humanoid with some tentacles coming from her dress? Is current Ursula meant to be the same Ursula from Ariel or is it perhaps a family name that gets passed down the generations?

well according to the song “Daddy’s Little Angel” (Thanks @MatthewPaul :3) Ursula was just born that way. As for why she is portrayed with tentacles, its because she has tentacles. To humans, thats kind of big trait. If even one person saw Ursula with her tentacles flying out of her dress, thats all they’d remember about her. Tentacle-Lady. Not lady in a dress.
