I think the enduring message of this show is one of hope. Hope in a better life. Hope in a happy ending. Hope that the universe will have your back. And all that hope stems from the idea that when you do good things, when you don’t put yourself first, that things will work out for you. So in my opinion, it shouldn’t matter what a character has done in the past. It shouldn’t matter if they have fallen to their knees and apologized to all who they have wronged. It shouldn’t matter if they are snarky, or just plain mean. Because if that character can rise above their past evil’s and ignore that little voice in the head that is telling them to put themselves first, well then they have as much a right to a happy ending as anyone else.
