WALT DISNEY!! I was trying to think about who the author is within the world of the show, but if you remove those blinders, it is obvious that the person responsible for all of these Disney stories is Mr. Disney himself. It breaks the 4th wall a bit (or a lot), but (except for Frankenstein) all of the characters on OUAT come from Disney Movies – so it fits. We could go further back to the source material, but then we split into so many different authors (Grimm, Anderson, Barie, Carrol, etc) that it doesn’t work.
This would be awesome, especially if they could get Tom Hanks to play (for one or two episodes) Walt Disney as he so brilliantly did in “Saving Mr Banks”. Here’s how I see it playing out – Have a jaw-dropping reveal at the end of one episode where they open the red door and there he is! People who don’t even watch Once (or only sporadically do) will tune in by the millions to see him the following week.
The other possibility is to have it be Kitsis and / or Horowitz – since they are literally the authors of the show. But that lacks the impact of it being Disney (particulary since none but the most hardcore fans would recognize them on sight).

This. I actually felt like A&E would turn out to be the Author but again, most people wouldn’t know who they are unless they are HARDCORE fans. Walt being the Author would also work and honestly I thought it would Mickey Mouse 😛

Excluding WL, I dont believe so. Also, I think “The Apprentice” guy is basically OUAT’s version of Mickey Mouse anyway (seeing as they both are apprentices to a sorcerer and ya know, the guy did get turned into a mouse). But having it be Walt Disney still would not be surprising. I would prefer that over the Grimm bothers which would be soooo cliche. I also think another option is probably Mother Goose, who will be revealed to have some sort of connection to Emma (because goose…swan…kind of the same thing :P)

Regina: You mean to tell me my happy ending rests in the hands of a rat?
Rumpelstilskin: We’re screwed.

He play’s a guy who suddenly hears narration in his head and after visiting a doctor he finds a literary specialist and they finally discover that his life is really a story written by this author who is known for killing off her characters. There is more to the movie but it got me thinking…..
What if the author isn’t some omnipotent being who is controlling these people’s lives like god, but just an ordinary writer, behind a plain wooden door in their apartment typing away twisted and mashed up stories of fairytales, not knowing what they are doing is bringing them to life. We have a stray page from the book of something that never happened, Robin and Regina kissing years ago at a much younger age, but it never occurred. A rough draft? The author decided to go back and change it? Add more angst to the plot?

Yes….like Sophie’s World. I referenced Sophie’s World (and Neverending Story) on a different fanboard more than a year ago to give an explanation as to why these characters exist, why we know about them, and why the likes of RH and Regina, whose stories are at least 500 years apart, might co-existing at the same time.

March 14, 2015 at 7:22 am #298542SirMedrautParticipantI feel like making Walt Disney the Author would be too much of a jump-the-shark moment for me. Besides the fact that he was a very real person (yes, yes, so was Blackbeard, but it’s not quite the same; Walt lived and died within the last century), he *isn’t* responsible for all the stories on OUAT. Most of them come from Disney movies, yeah. To name a really big one: Rumple doesn’t. The Wicked Witch doesn’t. Robin Hood, Mulan, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast are also Disney films that have been featured with varying levels of prominence that were released after Walt’s death. Even the ones that came out while he was alive – 8 different people have writing credits for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, but not one of them was named Disney. He oversaw and produced the films, I’m sure he likely had plenty of input, but was by no stretch of the definition a writer.
I know it’s a semi-popular thought, but the idea of him being the Author just wouldn’t sit well with me for reasons like these, honestly. I’ve come to a point where I’ve got no idea who the Author is and while I expect the Sorcerer to bear a recognizable name (Merlin, naturally), I’ve half accepted that the Author might just be the Author until proven otherwise. I kind of like the “Stranger Than Fiction”-esque idea of the Author not knowing what he/she is writing is real (much better than the Author being omnipotent giver-of-happy-endings, for sure).
