Could this episode have seen the start of the “final battle” Rumple mentioned in the pilot? Rumple and the QoD did talk about starting a war in S4E14 “Enter the Dragon.”

I think it could be, and it starts with the villains getting information out of adult Pinocchio.
The writers said that in 4b they ask what makes a hero and what makes a villain. Both battle for happy endings. But I think the conclusion will be that heroes will self-sacrifice for the sake of other people, whereas villians will stop at nothing and will always put their own needs first. Regina sits in the middle, but I think she will learn that she will need to self-sacrifice to get some kind of happy ending…and therefore win the battle. Regina has self-sacrificed a few times, but maybe not enough to earn her HE yet.

Sure. Why not. I mean, I’m not sure the writers remember the pilot well enough to know that this sticks out to us, those who do, but maybe
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"His statement did have Final Battle overtones…but the fact that Rumple just two months ago figured he’d leave Storybrooke to Ingrid’s horrific plot and now is starting his own war against heroes…I dunno.
He’s the one who made that prediction, so he must have SOME idea of what it meant. Now he’s going to be the one who starts it?
