Will has now bought up his sister Penelope, twice. Firstly in the Wonderland spin-off and now in the parent show. He claims that she was four years younger and better at everything. They had a lake by their home that would freeze over during the winter. The two of them would spend hours out there, but then one day Penelope fell through a thin patch of ice and died. After that, Will always wondered what she would be like if she grew up. He thinks that she would be a bit like Alice.

Do you think that Penelope will turn up in a future story line? If so, will she turn out to be a fairy tale character?

I think she will seeing as the writers have felt the need to mention her in both shows now (Especially in OuaT when he has yet to mention Anastasia – HIS TRUE LOVE). However I’m not sure if she’ll end up being a fairy tale character or a made up character for the show.

Penelope is a modern-day fairytale about a girl who was born with a pig snout.  Also, in classic Greek mythology, Penelope is the faithful wife of Odysseus, from Homer’s Odyssey. I’m not sure either applies to OUAT but the name Penelope is very unusual, so it stood out to me.

I’ve seen that movie. It is considered a gender reversal of Beauty and the beast where the girl is the beast. Funny considering that Will is dating Belle.

I don’t think she’ll turn out to be anyone. The writers just wanted to give Will a sympathetic reasoning for stealing the elixir to contrast Robin’s more “selfish” one and in order to get Robin to change his ways.

I hadn’t thought of that before connection. Interesting though.

I wouldn’t be surprised either way. Some brushed off Lily as just being a one off character, but then she turned out to be important. However, it could be like the Black Fairy, who was only brought up in “Going Home” purely as a plot device, but never brought up again. Though unlike the Black Fairy, Penelope has been brought up on at least two separate occasions so far. So to me, this can go in either direction.

I wouldn’t be surprised either way. If I had to guess, I think her being mentioned twice in Once canon is significant and a possible indicator that we may actually see her at some point. Does Penelope falling through the ice mean anything? Will believed it meant she died. Could she have somehow survived without his knowledge? It would’ve been interesting if Penelope falling through the ice had been linked back to Elsa or Ingrid, but alas, a missed opportunity.

Knowing Adam and Eddy….an amnesiac Penelope as Season 5B Villainess.
