As established in Season 1, bad things happen to people who try to leave Storybrooke. However, The Apprentice has already made a number of trips to our world while cursed (sidenote: how did he have his memories? Even Rumple didn’t have his!) and powerless.
1. The Apprentice magically appeared to Lily when she was on the Greyhound bus, giving her a massive info dump.
2. August said The Apprentice magically appeared to him when he was in Phuket, giving him a massive info dump.
I can understand that he was able to travel from the EF to our world, since he could’ve brought some magic with him to get back. But, if a.) there’s no magic in Storybrooke b.) he doesn’t know where Merlin is and c.) Regina already managed to put up her magic barrier from “Welcome to Storybrooke,” how did he manage to travel between our world and Storybrooke AND appear to people magically?

I don’t think the Apprentice came over in the original curse. Somehow he was protected (no, don’t ask me how). He came over in the Snow-cast curse, but not Regina’s. He used the door or other plot device to get to our world and talk with Lily and apparently August.

Exactly. We already saw that the Apprentice could just magically create a portal connecting the EF to our world on at least 3 occasions. First time was when he created that door for Ingrid, the second time was when he sent baby Lily into our world, and the third time was when he created a door to take Isaac into the EF for the first time. So apparently him and Merlin have always been powerful enough to create portals with the snap of the fingers, including ones to Lands Without Magic. As for why Rumple didn’t take advantage of this if he had known, well it’s clear that he and Merlin did not see eye to eye.
Im curious as to why he didn’t escape the second curse if he had the ability to escape the first one. One could say he just may have been out in another land while the curse was consuming the EF, fine, but he was most definetly there in the EF during the second one. So why not escape it?

I guess PLOT strikes again.I AM THINKING APPRENTICE GOES WHERE HE WANTS TO WHEN HE WANTS… He probably had a premonition or instructions from the Sorcerer to go to Storybrooke to mitigate the arrival of Lilly. Or to be there when EMMA becomes the DARK ONE…. maybe to prevent it.

.Did the Apprentice live with the Sorcerer? If he is here, and the mansion is here, shouldn’t the sorcerer be here? Do you guys think they will have to find the Sorcerer in SB? I know Apprentice said he was “far, far away” but I don’t see why… But then again, they can open portals so *shrug*

Well it seemed like the Sorcerer didn’t live with the Apprentice back in the EF. The one time we saw the two talk to one another, the Apprentice was talking to a cauldron and a puff of smoke. My guess is that the cauldron is essentially their version of Skype, and they were communicating from different locations.
