Adam shared a script of a deleted scene from 406. Note that he specified that this scene is NOT canon, nor was it even filmed:

@swangirlemma no worries. Here's the speech. Note, it's NOT canon (but maybe one day, consider it a work in progress) pic.twitter.com/DFwCmdbGwZ

Andrew and Kalinda talked about this in their 406 commentary. They said that they put it into a scrap box of ideas to play with at a later date if they wanted.

Right, that’s why fans brought it up with Adam on Twitter, and he decided to share the script for the scene in question.

And since this is currently not canon, this could easily change once they do go explore more of Hook’s backstory for real. Just like how they wrote an alternate story concerning Malcolm abandoning Rumple for “Manhattan”, where he got killed while on the run. They of course changed it so that Malcolm got de-aged and transformed into Peter Pan.

    So let’s see…

    Regina: Mommy Issues

    Rumple: Daddy Issues

    Zelena: Mommy Issues

    David: Daddy Issues

Cora: Possible Daddy Issues (Her father was a drunk)

    Hook: Possible Daddy Issues

    Peter Pan: Daddy Issues

    Ursula: Daddy Issues

    Ingrid: Sister Issues

    Ruby: Mommy Issues (sorta)

    Archie: Mommy & Daddy Issues

    Whale: Daddy Issues

Almost everyone in Storybrooke has had issues with their parents, but Snow White, Elsa, & Anna. It would seem those three are so far the only ones confirmed to have great relationships with their parents. Am I missing anyone?

I’m reading this as a hint they are going to explore more of hooks back story this season. Obviously different than what was stated in the script.

I would Elsa had some serious issues with her parents that were only resolved at the very end, but that’s seems like a fair list.

It’s not surprising for a few reasons. It’s exactly what was done on LOST and more broadly, our parents affect us quite a bit.

Yeah, I don’t think this version of Hook’s father is going to stand (hence Adam wanting to make sure everyone knows it’s not Canon) but I do think we’re going to see it this season

Hook did say to Baelfire that his father abandoned him too when he was a boy so it would fit canon. The only thing that feels off about the whole speech is Hook’s part at the end when he is describing his feelings. It just feels a bit too soppy and melodramatic for Hook’s character. Plus the fact that in show they’ve never really given Hook time to truly emote over anything, especially in regards to the whole Baelfire situation, to the point that anytime Hook is required to show emotion it comes across as contrived and somewhat superficial.

Perhaps that is what rubs people the wrong way about Hook. It’s not just shipping related, it’s the fact that he doesn’t feel genuine in his emotions and that none of his actions seem to have consequences that he feels sorry for.

On a side note, if the writers decide not to have Hook’s father abandon him, then essentially Hook lied to Baelfire. He willingly deceived the boy so that he could get the information he wanted. That actually puts Hook in a negative light.

Oh, I think they’ll still have Hook be abandoned, but it’s going to be far more complicated than what was originally written. Instead of his father being a coward and fleeing in the middle of the night, something else happened–like kidnapped–as an example, and Hook only believes that he was left behind.
