We’re almost to season 5 which means it’s once again time to put up another ratings thread. The ratings this year are pretty vital. We want to remain steady. With the exception of season premieres, don’t put too much hope of rising. Falling is to be expected but we need to hope and pray for steady if we want a 6th season.
Here’s what we’re up against for S5:
CBS: Madame Secretary (more viewers than OUAT, lower demo which is what counts)
NBC: Football (ratings killer, but no more so than usual)
Fox: Animation Domination (not direct competition).
Here are the ratings for each season premiere/final to know where we stand going into S5
Season One Premiere Ratings : 4.0 (“The Pilot”)
Season One Finale Ratings: 3.3 (“A Land Without Magic”)
Season Two Premiere Ratings: 3.9 (“Broken”)
Season Two Final Ratings: 2.3 (“…And Straight On ‘Till Morning”)
Season Three-A Premiere Ratings: 2.6 (“The Heart Of The Truest Believer”)
Season Three-A Finale Ratings: 1.9 (“Going Home”)
Season Three-B Premiere Ratings: 2.4 (“New York City Serenade”)
Season Three-B Finale Ratings : 2.3 (“Snow Drifts”/”There’s No Place Like Home”)
Season Four-A Premiere Ratings: 3.5 (“A Tale Of Two Sisters”)
Season Four-A Finale Ratings: 1.7 (“Heroes and Villains”)
Season Four-B Premiere Ratings: 2.2 (“Darkness On The Edge Of Town”)
Season Four-B Finale Ratings: 1.8 (“Operation Mongoose Part 1 and Part 2”)

If they do not want to renew their contracts–any of them–should they be up after year 5, then it’s possible the show will end because of losing big names (Bobby Carlyle, as an example).

I know many college students and younger viewers who watch via the net rather than broadcast TV. I would be interested if they take the BINGE WATCHERS and those who stream into the numbers.

No. Ratings only reflect watching on TV, live or live + next day. We also have Live + 3.
Ad buyers do not care about binge watching or streaming because their commercials are not shown.

And even when a show is doing decent ratings, it can still be in danger as a result of contract negotiations. For example, this past TV Season, Castle’s fate was initially questionable, due to lengthy contract negotiations with Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic.

September 17, 2015 at 10:20 pm #308173RumplesGirlKeymasterA bit of both, to be honest. This isn’t a new villain coming which has largely become redundant at this point; it’s the Savior gone dark. It’s mythic and very old and very in line with other fantasy without the (now tired) Disney villain attached.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"September 22, 2015 at 7:04 pm #308324MatthewPaulModeratorI’m going to predict either a 2.0 or a 2.1 for “The Dark Swan.” Each premiere has at least gotten a 0.3 boost from their respective finales. Season 4’s finale got a 1.8. This tends to happen even with the Spring premieres, too.

I am also predicting a 2.1 for the opener on Sunday.
Play along, everyone!

Hmm…I’m betting 2.1 to 2.2. Given how much baiting they’ve done to all the Ships plus a promise to do an LGBT Storyline, anyone who left before the Season 4 Finale are bound to return.
