Have any fellow Oncers read this book series by Ransom Riggs? I just finished the third book, Library of Souls and LOVED it! I hear Tim Burton will be directing the film of the first book too! I believe it is still in production, but the studio released this mini teaser video (can’t quite call it a trailer.)

Yes! I love the first book. An unbelievably strange book that combines myth, fantasy, time travel, pocket universes, and vernacular photography. There are creepy monsters and an entertaining plot, but what really makes this book worth the read are the black and white photos sprinkled throughout. At first, I thought I would find them annoying but it’s amazing how well they work with the narrative, fitting into the story at just the right moments. It was obvious that Riggs spent countless hours hunting down these photos to use, pouring through garage sales and personal collections. The photos are strange (like the cover photo of a girl floating) and are obviously “faked” but that is washed away in the explanation of who the children in the photos are
I really should sit down and read book two. I keep meaning to!

Squeee!! Yay I am so glad to hear you found it as intriguing as I did! I definitely recommend the 2nd and 3d book, it is a very interesting story he has put together and there is so much more to the world of peculiardom! I would love to hear your thoughts if/once you finish the trilogy. I am really excited to see it as a film, but as you point out the old black and white photos work so well with the story I am curious to see if/how they fit them in with the movie.
