    So what happened to Merlin?

Dead or trapped somewhere? Though if he were trapped, they should still be able to communicate with him, right?

Why couldn’t he fight back if he’s so powerful?

    Dead.

    Dead.

That would be terrible for two big reasons. (1) It’d be a terrible message to send that darkness could so easily wipe out the most powerful sorcerer of all time and (2) it’d be horrible for yet another person of color to bite the dust.

    Absolutely.

    Still going with dead, though.

Have you noticed that on this show, ever new power is the most powerful power of all time?  Now I have no doubt that  Merlin is mighty, but let’s be real here… Blue was set up to be the oldest and most powerful wielder of light magic, but she is never even mentioned anymore.  Emma took the spot of all powerful light magic, and now Merlin has followed suit.  Also in season 1, The Dark One was set up to be the most powerful dark magic.  Up until this season we haven’t really seen the Dark One as a real villain of the town.  Rumple was there making deals and causing mischief but there was always another villian worse and scarier than the Dark One (Regina, Cora, Pan, Zelina).  I just don’t know what to think anymore.

Arthurian Legend does say that Merlin was the most powerful Wizard to ever live, so keeping that in mind I think that he is not dead, but either in hiding or frozen in time again.  In season 1, the dark curse froze time for 28 years, so it stands to reason that Merlin is frozen in time in Camelot and that is why they could not communicate with him and got his voicemail.

    THIS!

    Season 1:

Most Powerful Light Magic: Blue Fairy

Most Powerful Dark Magic: The Dark One Rumplestilskin

    Season 2:

Most Powerful Light Magic: Emma Swan

Most Powerful Dark Magic: The Dark One Rumplestilskin (Though it’s been said Cora has beaten him once)

    Season 3:

Most Powerful Light Magic: Regina Mills (As Glinda said, the most powerful purveyor of light magic)

Most Powerful Dark Magic: Zelena Mills (Has managed to best Rumplestilskin, who never once tried to challenge her again, and was, as Glinda put it…the ultimate dark magic practitioner.)

    Season 4:

Most Powerful Light Magic: Emma Swan (After training from Regina, and learning to accept her magic, she’s once again the ultimate light magic user.)

Most Powerful Dark Magic: (I don’t really know anymore….either Zelena or Rumple, but based off Season 3, I’m going with Zelena.)

    Season 5:

Most Powerful Light Magic: The Sorcerer Merlin

Most Powerful Dark Magic: The Dark Swan Emma (Though she maybe more powerful than Merlin considering the fact she’s an ultimate practitioner of both Light & Dark Magic.)

Watch in Season 5B and 6, we have another new ultimate practitioner of some form of magic!

Watch in Season 5B and 6, we have another new ultimate practitioner of some form of magic!

Hades, the ultimate dark being of ultimate dark magic, and Zeus, perhaps the king of all light magic.

Seriously, I wish we had some real information in where Blue Fairy fits into this magical hierarchy. What makes her so special? She must just be the most available powerful magic user, not the most powerful hands down.

As for Merlin, I think he’s dead. He is much too powerful to keep around forever as he would solve all the issues, and I was saying elsewhere that he is much to iconic for them to kill but…hey, I guess he is dead. And I am guessing Emma killed him. For reasons.

I am HOPING he’s alived, or just trapped as bush in Emma’s yard or something. But I am sure he’s dead.

It’s either him or Lancelot that are going to die so no matter what a POC will die.
