Preamble: Marvel’s Jessica Jones might be a show a tad too dark and gritty for some OUaT fans, but it’s a brilliant show. Audience and critics seemed to be even pretty much on one side about it. If you like gritty, dark, (Neo) Noir thriller (it’s a lot darker than Veronica Mars, to give an idea) this show might be for you. Fair warning: Watching it can be a challenge, it deals with issues of PTSD, control, violence and abuse, and doesn’t do it in a trivialising fantasy / fair tale fluff way.

For those who have missed it (it was easy to miss in the credits, look in the last episode for special thanks), Jane Espenson lend a helping writer’s hand to the this new Netflix original show.

Espenson talked about the show and working on it in a interview for Indiewire: Getting Personal With The Stars and Creator of ‘Marvel’s Jessica Jones’

“I’ve never seen so much positive Twitter energy on any project.” — Jane Espenson

Espenson knows something about dark sides of fandoms on Twitter, seeing the storms OUaT sometimes ignites or suffers.

ESPENSON: I’m listed on the last few episodes, on the “Thanks to.” I came in without a title and I just came on for four weeks and sat with the writing staff, and I was the Jane of all trades. If something needed to be written, if something needed to be polished, needed to be re-written, I was just handed pages. So I just sat there for a month doing my favorite thing, which was writing dialogue. I know I’m not great at structure and story. Melissa and her staff had already done all that, so all they needed was someone to roll up their sleeves and write some scenes. And it was the dream job. It was amazing.

    There is a bit more.

Jane is such a talented writer. I don’t get why she is wasting her time on OUAT writing about stupid mushrooms.
