When season five of the spellbinding drama returns, Storybrooke fans will be introduced to a new ship-loving pirate with a stormy past. Actor Costas Mandylor has been cast to play Captain Silver, ETonline can exclusively reveal.
As of now, details surrounding this mysterious newcomer are being kept locked away in the depths of the sea, but we can share that Captain Silver definitely has some rough-watered history with Killian Jones, aka Captain Hook.
Mandylor will make his swashbuckling debut in an upcoming episode this spring in Once Upon a Time’s fifth season.
Although this speculation has yet to be confirmed, we have a magical hunch that Mandylor’s Captain Silver could be Captain Long John Silver — the cunning and villainous pirate from the 1883 novel, Treasure Island.

Disney has also done two of their own adaptations of Treasure Island. A live action film in 1950, and the animated film Treasure Planet in 2002. If it is Long John Silver, it’s probably not because Disney did films about it, but rather that it’s an iconic literary character. Captain Hook, Blackbeard and Long John Silver have to be the three most iconic pirate figures.
