Hello all
Not quite sure why this odd thought made me finally sign up after listening to the podcast since season 4, but it did.
I have been ruminating over how they are going to tie up the loose ends this half season.
It is obviously they are putting Zelena on a redemption arc, considering how she has acted alone/with baby Pistachio, it seems likely we are expected to accept it.. The actress makes we want it for the character, she is that good, but I don’t actually agree with that direction 🙂
I feel that we have been expected to accept that a Rumple and Regina don’t deserve to be separated from their children, and with their crimes not being so dissimilar from Zelena that we will be expected to think she shouldn’t be cut out of baby Pistachio’s life…
So, what is the solution here, if we are *sigh* expected to accept that Zelena deserves and/or has a right to parent baby Pistachio, as does Robin? This is mainly a custodial/visitation issue. It may also depend on what’s up (or truly up) with Hades (another actor that makes me root for their character beyond all rationality 😀 ). I think we can all agree though that *IF* Zelena has/does earn motherhood part and parcel of that is that she should recognize that her child should not be separated from it’s father permanently. So options.
1) Zelena could return to Storybrooke permanently.
If Zades don’t have true love and/or find other matters more important than true love (for Hades that could the time travel spell & revenge on Zeus, or Zelena that could be baby Pistachio herself as her old(?) motivation of revenge could align with Hades sinister plots).
2) Zelena could visit Storybrooke for shared-custody/visitation.
This could be from Oz, Underbrooke, or some other realm, doesn’t really matter where Zelena sets up residence. So this could end with her with Hades or not.
3) Baby Pistachio could visit Zelena wherever Zelena sets up residence.
This obviously requires the most trust from Robin/Regina/Storybrooke, at least with regards to Pistachio’s welfare and returning her as agreed.
So if Zelena does something redemptive enough to earn their trust perhaps they would be willing to do that.
So back onto my topic title (thanks if you have made it this far, I know I can be long winded 🙂 )
I was wondering if Zelena and/or Hades would use the contract over Belle’s baby as leverage for baby Pistachio, who could become a Persephone-like figure in this story? (or Zelena, if she ends up residing in Underbrooke and leaving to visit baby Pistachio).
Could actually involve a new contract even, to tear up the old one. The one time a contract could be used solely for good in this show? :p 😉

Second, while I’d really like Zades to work out (like you, beyond all rationality) these things rarely do when you have main character + arc character. The arc character tends to meet some sort of tragic end. I think the best option then is for Zelena to return to SB for good and have joint custody with Robin (provided he stops living in the woods). I actually think that’s be a great thing to see on this family show–that some families don’t have mom and dad living together (but both still living), and some families have step parent (that don’t try to poison the step child…) and that you don’t need to be married/have a romantic partner to be satisfied.

And no, I am not counting Zelena-as-Marion and Robin 🙂
With how little time passes in a season/half-season I think Zelena could still technically reside somewhere else and have shared-custody, but actually be visiting Storybrooke and be a regularly-billed cast member *shrugs* 🙂

Rumple and Cora, S2. At least in the past. But it need not be romantic. Almost all the arc villains have some sort of familial connection.
Pan (Rumple’s father) died.
Zelena (Regina’s sister) believed dead until 417
Ingrid (Emma’s foster mother) died

Michael Raymond-James was promoted for full time regular cast in S3 after guest staring in S2.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"You know it has occurred to me why the heck hasn’t Zelena tried to kill Robin since baby Pistachio’s birth. Other than the writer’s don’t want it 😉 (I did say attempt, I didn’t say be successful.. or I am forgetting something?). Wouldn’t it kill two birds with one stone – solve the custody issue and deny Regina her HEA/happily-ever-after :p I doubt Zelena is consciously wise enough to think that her daughter might hate her one day over it (and if she is, she probably figures she can hide the facts)… I could see Zelena still enjoying toying with Robin and Regina still, but to get her own stated HEA it is the fastest way. While Regina’s dark side might desire revenge… even Snow and Charming separated a child from it’s “evil” mother once, I doubt they want to help do it again 🙂
I think a large part of Zelena’s revenge plot is getting to see the suffering of others. It’s a lot like Regina’s original plan in that regard. It wasn’t just enough to kill Snow or Charming; she had to curse them to deny their happy endings. I think getting pregnant with Robin’s baby and then watching Regina have to live with this knowledge would be too delicious for Zelena. She’s reveal in it; like Regina watching David and Kathryn in S1, while Mary Margaret suffered.
