Once Upon a Time bid farewell to a fan favorite character on Sunday night in a heartbreaking sacrifice that will reverberate in the upcoming two-hour finale.
After returning from the Underworld, the heroes had to face-off with Hades (Greg Germann), who aimed to rule Storybrooke with Zelena (Rebecca Mader) by his side. To solidify his position, Hades planned to kill Regina with an Olympian Crystal – no afterlife, no Underworld – but Robin (Sean Maguire) jumped in front of her, sacrificing himself and leaving behind his two children, Roland and baby Robin. It’s true. Robin Hood is dead, and EW can confirm that Maguire is no longer a series regular. We caught up with Maguire to find out his reaction to that big death:

The show has always been about hope, but Regina has now lost two loves. How do you think that will affect her in the aftermath of Robin’s death?
I have no idea, to be honest. What I have seen on social media is that, because Adam and Eddy have always said the show is about hope, and because Regina is one of the most beloved characters, it feels like they feel like they’ve been let down or they’ve been lied to.Preach!
It’s sad for the fans, but I guess Adam and Eddy will tell you that’s drama and they’re still in the middle of their story and they have reasons for everything. They’re very intelligent guys, I’m sure they knowwhat they’re doing.
Sounds like he isn’t so sure but he wants to leave on a good note in case they ever ask him back for a flashback or something.
Does being killed in a manner in which there is no afterlife or Underworld almost hurt a bit more considering Robin spent half a season in the Underworld trying to resurrect someone else?
Yeah, I think so. For me, my job as an actor is to serve what’s on the page. That’s it. It’s not a collaborative thing where we discuss things. Adam and Eddy are the architects of Once Upon a Time. I, as an actor, fill my responsibilities to serve the writers. That’s always what I’ll do to the letter. Yeah, from what I’ve read on social media from people that watched the show last night, they’re like, “I don’t understand it, you said they were soulmates, you said the lion tattoo, and all of these things that alluded to a backstory we never saw.” I think some of the audience feel a little but shortchanged, like they were being promised something was going to come, but it never did. Again, it’s not for me to comment on why or how; my job is just to serve the writing. That’s what I’ve always tried to do to the best of my ability.Sounds like Sean M. is trying to distance himself from the poor writing decisions while also trying to maintain some professionalism. It’s such a shame the writers never utilized Sean more or gave him a more fleshed-out backstory about the lion tattoo. The writers had all season to get to it, but instead we just got pointless “filler” episodes like Merida, Hercules, Liam, and Oz.

SEAN MAGUIRE: No, I found out in January. The guys phoned me and told me what their plan was. I said, “Okay,” and we’ve taken it from there.
Hm.

This doesn’t sound all the confident to be honest.

It wouldn’t hurt though

Reading between the lines: Sean sounds as upset and shortchanged as the fans
As an actor, did you feel like Robin Hood’s story was finished?
No, I didn’t really. I felt like there was a lot more interesting stuff to get to that had been alluded to
Yup there it is.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 9, 2016 at 3:24 pm #323225WickedRegalParticipantSo yeah…that’s what Adam and Eddy gave Hoodie Fans & OQ Fans…false promises, lies, deception, heartache, and fake hope!
I feel so bad for Sean, I really do! He was so excited about this character that only got sidetracked, manipulated, and degraded…and this was Robin Hood! The Robin Hood! The King of Thieves! He was a world renown legend before he was ever considered a fairy tale, and they screwed him over! No real backstory, we’ll never know what that dark past was, we still don’t know why he thought Marian’s death was his fault, and his only son is now an orphan and even back in January, when they knew they were going to kill him, Adam and Eddy didn’t even have the decency to give him enough screen time or even give him more than one line every three episodes!
I wish Sean Maguire the best in his future endeavors for both him, his wife Tanya, and their son Flynn, and I look forward to following him on whatever next journey he’s about to embark on.

May 9, 2016 at 3:26 pm #323227SlurpeezParticipantThese writers are the least professional bunch with probably one the worst track records towards their talented actors. First, it was MRJ, then Jamie Chung, then Michael Socha and now Sean Maguire

May 9, 2016 at 3:27 pm #323228RumplesGirlKeymasterSo Sean didn’t know until January? Anyone wanna place bets that it’s the same deal with MRJ two years ago? The writers didn’t know they were gonna kill Neal until the end of S3A and didn’t tell the actor until they started writing 3B.

I mean…there was some hint that this was coming. First, Regina said in the S4 finale that her happy ending wasn’t a man. Next, Robin just barely escaped death in “The Price.” So, I tend to think the writers planned on killing off Robin Hood at some point in S5, but they just didn’t communicate that to Sean Maguire until early this year (probably because the writers wanted to avoid that awkward coversation until they had to tell Sean). The writers probably decided to kill him off sometime after all the negative fan reactions to Robin Hood choosing to go with “Marian” over staying with Regina. Then when Zelena raped Robin Hood, the crap really hit the fan and the writers didn’t know how to keep around a character like Robin while keeping their own favorite, Zelena, around without awkwardness (as the last two episodes showed).

Don’t forget Meghan Ory.

Maybe but…then why go through all the hassle and money of making him a series regular.

Yeah, i can place a time on that for MRJ, october 2013, the time that a certain ship got a people choice award for best chemistry, that was around the time they were filming 310, also there was some anon on tumblr, that said they worked for the show. and said after 311 aired that the script for epi 311 had to be changed last minute bc the character that was supposed to die by killing Pan would be Hook, in a nod to Peter pan story, and we know that by having Rumple killing pan, that was what made Neal try to bring him back and dying.
Also, January, uhmm, the same month that Sean posted pics of MRJ in vancouver??? Was this revenge? or he found out after he posted those pics?
Also, 2 week before GoS premiere, on the same day The Catch premiered, Sean tweeted during the Catch time, for people to see GoS bc the show would be great, uhmmm, more than a simple support, when no one else from the cast mentioned GoS, you may say is conspiracy, but i actually see a pattern.
Another thing, they say that Sean is no longer a series regular, so this is even different from MRJ, since he was series regular until the last episode, which now makes me think Sean had only one season contract and MRJ had more seasons, which were paied with a certain miniseries in a channel own by ABc and on a Disney movie. Wonder now if Sean`s next projects may be with ABC and Disney.
