Is this actually a Friday the 13th: the early years or something else that doesn’t live up to the expectation of what we were sold?

It has the camp and horror setting, but not really. It’s more supernatural and psychological horror. It’s in no way a slasher, which Friday the 13th was. So far the myythology is pretty different, too. Adam & Eddy also admitted that they took elements from non horror 80s films too, like the John Hughes ones. Elizabeth Lail’s character even has Hughes’ surname.
