As revealed at Comic-Con, Emma Swan is not the only Savior on Once Upon a Time. A sneak peek at the opening sequence of season 6 featured Jafar (Oded Fehr) hunting down Aladdin (Deniz Akdeniz), whose job as the Savior had clearly taken it toll.

“The very first thing we’re hoping is that people realize Emma wasn’t the first,” executive producer Edward Kitsis says of the Savior reveal. “Once you realize that Emma wasn’t the first, then it makes you wonder, ‘Well, last year we learned about the Dark One mythology. Is this year when we learn about the Savior mythology?’ And the answer would be yes.”

I’m loving the savior mythology!! Emma is my favorite character and the Aladdin clip from comic sets up some interesting parallels. It is kinda scary to think what could happen for Emma. Then again Emma always says that no one decides her fate but her. It will great to see Emma being strong and independent but have the weight of the savior mythology. I’m just so excited about the possibilities of aladdin’s story adding more depth to our main characters.

Still not sure how I feel about there being other Savior’s when Emma’s Saviorhood is for some pretty specific reasons and the byproduct of some pretty specific events.

That’s a good point maybe every savior is unique but there are some similarities. Maybe there is a savior for each realm/kingdom

Maybe each savior is unique and like there is a savior for each realm / kingdom or whatever

I’m not incredibly excited considering the way that they just went against and butchered what we knew about the Dark One mythology. It almost became a “less is more” situation. They couldn’t even get events they explained two episodes apart in order, so I’m pretty cynical for this season.

I hope not! Nor do I want the role of Savior to be passed down through death. The only way I can imagine the idea of multiple Saviors working is if a Savior is created every time some powerful evil magic (like a curse) is performed. It could be a magical law that such dark magic always results in a Savior, kind of like the key to a code being contained within the code itself. The destruct mechanism for the curse would come into existence along with the curse itself.

But honestly, I’m quite wary about ‘delving into Savior mythology’. They’ve already confused things a bit by stating that it’s the Savior’s job to give everyone their happy ending. To me, putting this responsibility on the shoulders of one person is ridiculous. What if some people don’t want a happy ending? What if some don’t deserve it? What is a happy ending anyway? This is a job for someone omnipotent, which Saviors clearly aren’t. It makes much more sense for a Savior to give everyone a chance to get their happy ending. This would fit in with Emma lifting the first curse, as the whole point of that was to keep everyone from what they loved. A Savior should restore free will/memories or whatever, but each person should always be resonsible for their own happy ending.

Then again Emma always says that no one decides her fate but her.

I thought that was Belle. Emma is more along the lines of “Son? What son? All I need is Hook. Hook means everything to me, I can’t function without Hook. Nothing matters but Hook.”

    That’s silly, and so unrealistic.

Maybe we are getting caught up in words and titles. Maybe Aladdin is a savior in terms of a guy who saved a bunch of people (and when you think about it, he did. He saved the entire kingdom of agrabah from being ruled under by uber-sorcerer Jafar and most powerful genie in the world Jafar. So he really did battle against some pretty dark forces and win! He is a savior to his people, just as Emma is a savior to hers for saving the enchanted forest from being ruled by Regina under her curse and countless other villains threatening those people as well). So they are both saviors, but perhaps Emma’s savior-ness is the magical element, child of true love, destined by prophecy to start the final battle, etc, etc. Sbe is THE Savior whereas Aladdin is a savior.

I really don’t know how I feel about all this. It definitely does take away Emma’s uniqueness to say she is just one of the saviors.

Honestly, I might be able to swallow this a little better if the other savior had been an original character and not a pre-existing one like Aladdin. Just me though.
