So far I am really enjoying this season. When coming to the forums … I always love this thread . . .I like connecting with other ONCERS and seeing what they think.
What were your FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOMENTS from this episode 6 x04…STRANGE CASE
INCLUDE ANY favorite dialogue too.
.[adrotate group="5"]October 16, 2016 at 8:59 pm #328748RumplesGirlKeymasterGENERAL: I am really really torn this week. There were some less than ideal epiphanies and themes but on the other hand some of the smaller moment of this week–like Snow teaching–were really great and I wish we could ease up off the plot and focus on that kind of storytelling. I also think the show managed to mine quite a bit of food for thought even in some murky waters which I’ll always applaud. We also had a lot of strong performances from Hyde, Rumple, Jekyll, and the Evil Queen.
Rating…gosh. I don’t know. Maybe…a 7.5/10
LIKED
–The cute family breakfast scene. Look! Normal things!
–“All magic needs is a little science”
–Rumple still knows how to recognize a desperate soul. Jekyll being rejected by his community but so desperately wanting to prove himself to others…sound familiar?
–We’ve had several balls this season; all the gowns and rooms have been well done!
–“Alright sister! Let’s dance” *Proceeds to fall straight down with a wave of the EQ’s hand.*
–Hyde and the EQ are a bizarre totally loony team up. Like Hades and Zelena last year, they are so over the top and crazy that you have to smile when you see them.
–Bobby as DarkOne!Rumple is still entertaining, 6 years later. You can tell it’s the role he prefers by about a mile.
–Snow teaching! It’s not Mary Margaret teaching; it’s actually Snow teaching.
MIXED
–Emma, we know you’re the Savior. You don’t have to say it every single scene even if this entire season is about Savior mythology.
–Rumple names Hyde “Hyde” because he was all the parts that Jekyll had to…hide. Oof.
–I have a ton of issues with Mary’s backstory and what the show demonstrated tonight. The basic sum is that Mary wanted a man who would show her passion and desire and overthrow societies conventions. For these thoughts and her acting upon them, Mary died. She was, essentially, punished for her sexual feelings. I guess you can argue that Jekyll (and Hyde) were punished in the long run, but not for expressing their sexual feelings–Hyde is basically a walking talking id–but for keeping Jekyll repressing them. There were a lot of sexual overtones this episode with a binary that men should be virile and women passive. Jekyll is the real villain because he’s weak and, basically, impotent. After the past two weeks in America, this sort of backwards old school gender dynamics really rubbed me the wrong way.
DISLIKED
–Really????! Rumple basically locked Belle in a CAGE and then said “you’ll thank me someday.” I cannot with how this show has turned one of their best, most loved couples into something egregiously damaged and abusive.
–And LATER! “You may not think you need me, but you do! You will come back to me..even for necessity” DONE. 100% DONE with this ship. Basically…you don’t know your own head and heart and you need me because of that. I know what you need better than you do. You shape up and hop to, little miss. You’re my wife and it’s time you behaved like one. I can’t believe the writers have done such a through job of destroying Rumbelle.
–‘Shirin’s” story about the princess who didn’t embrace herself and lost her kingdom…heavy handed way to tell “Shirin’s” story without revealing who she is. As if we all don’t know. Shock everyone! The princess in the story was Shirin!
–I really don’t like Emma’s brown coat. Why the change? Usually her jackets are symbolic of something. Is it because she’s doubting her own saviorhood? Probably, but it’s still an ugly coat.
–Really dislike the idea that in order to kill the doppelganger you have to kill the original. They are the same person! They are two sides of the same coin; one isn’t more powerful or more “real” than the other. It’s about integration and learning to temper both sides of yourself. So Hyde is, ipso facto, which also means that the Evil Queen is less “real” than Regina but…that’s a really silly way to go. They are one and the same. Regina is the Evil Queen, always. It’s about learning to keep the darkness at bay and listening to your “higher angels.”

It wasn’t perfect, but it could’ve been worse.
Liked:
Bobby’s haircut okay!
Evil Queen & Mr. Hyde are like evil toddlers…I love it!
Domesticated Snowing….but they have at least thirty pancakes for three-four people?
Dark One Rumpelstilskin in the flashback is a treat!
Princes Jasmine! I think I can like this friendship between her and Snow! Princesses should just stick together!
That was quite the twist in the story! Wow!
Belle’s standing her ground! Good for her!
Mixed:
Why do people in Storybrooke still think they stand a chance against magic when they constantly keep getting knocked out?!
Ummm…Snow are you shocked by your class? You’ve been fighting a new villain every month, and absent from the class…surely it isn’t shocking?!
Disliked:
Rumple…how did you…I just, how could you let Hyde get the dagger like that? And locking your wife up like she’s an animal at the zoo….why do I even bother sometimes?
Just when I was starting to enjoy Mr. Hyde…he has to die. Figures.

October 16, 2016 at 9:15 pm #328756nonnieParticipantLOVED the episode …. but then I do not go to deep into the themes until I am able to do a rewatch….I have too much problem following the plot.
I am hoping they are able to reunite EQ and Regina into the same person rather then kill off REGINA. I predict someone will try to kill REGINA before they are put back together and that will be our story in the future.
SNOW …. yes more active and had a part in the show …. I think the lack of Snow & Charming is has hurt the show in the past …. The emphasis on secondary / temporary characters caused us to be less invested. I know they had to do some of it because of GINNY’s pregnancies but S&C should have been more involved and active in seasons 3,4 and 5.
Rating 8/10 but I might revise it in the future.
October 16, 2016 at 9:59 pm #328768AKAParticipantI actually really like this episode,I found it highly entertaining an exciting. I give it a 8.0/10
Liked:
The whole story of Jekyll and Hyde and the twist. I was saying before this episode began that I bet they were going to make Jekyll the evil one and I love when I am right.
I continue to love Rumple in the flashbacks he still makes me laugh just by being on screen, I also liked that I guessed that he was helping Jekyll because of Belle (I had his motivations wrong but close enough)
Love Robert’s haircut but will miss the long hair (do you guys think there is more to it than he just wanted a change?) I was kind of hoping that there would be an actual reason for cutting it
I liked the breakfast with the family scene
I actually think that Rumbelle took a step forward this episode. They are both incredibly angry and holding all that anger in is both destructive and nonproductive. I would have rather they had a conversation but I guess that does not make for good tv. I think they are both reacting out of anger and perhaps saying things they don’t necessarily mean. After all Belle states yet again that she doesn’t love him when just two episodes ago she stated that she did. Rumple could have and should have stated that she will need him to help protect their child in a less threatening manner. Let’s face it though they are acting like a real couple here. While Rumple was in the wrong for trapping Belle on the ship I can understand his reasoning and Belle should have had some kind of understanding that he was trying to protect her and their baby.
Mixed:
I was not feeling the whole Snow White Teacher thing. I am not sure how using a bow and arrow teachers Newton’s law?
The Jasmine teacher thing was predictable
No real dislikes

General thoughts: I really enjoyed this episode, I think it’s the best I’ve seen from OUAT in a long time. Good writing, brilliant acting and interesting exploration of the duality of the human psyche.
Likes:
– Sam Witwer stole the show with his brilliant performance. It’s the first time since his appearance that I really enjoyed watching him.
– Rumple and the EQ were superb as usual.
– Snow and Jasmine teaching and forming a friendship was fun to watch. This is the BroTP of the season. Their name can be Snowin or Snowmine.
– The Charmings at breakfast was a sweet scene. It helped that Hook wasn’t there.
– Finally, I liked some of the points highlighted in the episode’s exploration of splits and duality. It made total sense that the so-called good side retained the capacity for evil while the so-called dark side was capable of love – reminiscent of the ying yang symbol. The dialog also breifly touched on what the “evil” side really was – the more primal side of ourselves, unaffected by societal conditioning. I would have liked to see this concept explored further, as it’s so much more intriguing than the childish notion of “good” and “bad”.
Dislikes:
– “I have to die.” I thought this was extremely silly, but I’ll explain over in the other thread where this discussion is being held.
– For most of the episode, I thought they were making a parallel between Hyde/Mary and Rumple/Belle. I was interested to see where it would go, and disappointed that it went nowhere.
– This is a minor thing, but the scene with Snow and Jasmine where Snow is lamenting her inability to teach Newton’s laws of motion was a missed opportunity for some witty dialogue. Too bad they ended up talking in cliches about being true to yourself – the same stuff we hear just about every episode.
October 17, 2016 at 7:40 am #328789PxlbarrelParticipantI have a question… was last week’s “cameo” of David Anders… the last we see of Dr. Frankenstein/Whale this season? Since there’s no more Jeckyl…will we see our monster builder?

Not really sure. David Anders hasn’t been back on set but it’s always possible to bring him back since iZombie films next door. But I’m guessing yes that was it.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"October 17, 2016 at 10:30 am #328805thedarkonedearieParticipantOverall I liked this episode but again, it had some minor flaws that I’m mostly able to look the other way on.
Overall: 8/10
Liked:
– The twist that Jekyll was the monster. I thought the backstory was great. And Jekyll basically framing Hyde for his murder was pretty great.
– Sat Witwer did a great job.
– Gold being bad again. Robert Carlyle just does it so well. I think they are setting him up this way so that he can die a hero at the end of this arc. I’m not sure how you could be on favor of this ship anymore. The writers don’t even want us to root for it anymore it seems. Which is fine, bc Belle isn’t being stupid. She recognizes the abuse and based on how bad it was this week, I just dn’t see any sort of reconciliation at this point. They have to kill Rumple and he’s going to sacrifice himself specifically for Belle.
– Charming getting thrown by Hyde.
– Gold’s new haircut. It looks good and it’s a nice switch up.
– How Jekyll and Hyde died was pretty cool. Actual blood on the show…
– Snow teaching was great. And as RG said, it’s SNOW teaching so that was nice to see.
– The flashbacks felt like The Nutty Professor and I didn’t hate it.
– Hook saving Belle. Hook doing wonders this year.
– The dagger coming into play. Always good.
– Great acting from the major players this week.
Mixed:
– Jekyll going from killing someone accidentally to full blown trying to murder Belle was a little too fast for my liking.
– The window scene. It just looked so forced. He was no where near the window and then how they got them to the window looked sloppy.
– Jasmine, yay! Actress, check! But come on….the slow reveal…we all knew it was Jasmine. But where is Aladdin? Clearly not in the land of untold stories like we thought. And my goodness, the Oracle has got to be Jafar. She had a staff. But if Jasmine is working with Jafar, is JAsmine evil? My guess is she needs him to find Aladdin but is not a bad person. Perhaps she is in debt to him.
Disliked:
– How is Rumple in fictional london? The same place we know Bae ended up….Is this before Bae went through the portal? We know Rumple is already with Belle at this point so I’m inclined to say Bae is already gone. So Rumple was in the same place Bae was but he just didn’t know it? Someone needs to explain this to me.
– Sam Witwer is gone. He was so good. Gosh that voice. And what a presence on the screen. It’s a shame he had to die just so they could show us how to kill a doppelganger.

Actually Adam and eddy have always maintained that Bae was in real London .
