DID anyone watch TIME AFTER TIME … 2 hour premier was on right after ONCE. I enjoyed it although I found it kind of violent. It reminded me of TIMELESS in some ways … but no history hopping…. H.G.WELLS adapting to today time.
.
WHAT DID YOU THINK OF THE SHOW???

I realize a lot of ONCE viewers listen to DANIEL’S live stream but I have restricted broadband and have just been downloading podcasts after 12 MN when the broad band is unrestricted.

FOX’s time-travel comedy “Making History” (0.9) fared slightly better, though it was below “Son of Zorn’s” average for the season. “The Last Man on Earth” (1.0) returned up slightly from its last episode.

I’m hoping, from the doctor’s last name, that they’re planning to incorporate other elements of early science fiction into the show.

What was the doctor’s last name… I must of missed it as I watched while baking cookies.
I am hoping that it is sucessfull because hubby and I both liked the show… we also watch TIMELESS together…. watching TV together is a rarity in our home.

His last name is Stevenson, and the end of the episode showed that he hasn’t completely given over to his violent nature, so I think he’s meant to represent Jekyll and Hyde. I wonder if we’ll see characters with other classic SF/fantasy/horror authors’ names (Verne, Shelley, Stoker, Lovecraft) acting out their stories.

I think that was a mistake. I don’t think a show works where one of the main characters is just a knife wielding crazy person. They may have tried to shade that a bit with him not killing that one girl, but it still didn’t work.
I liked HG Wells and the girl, but i am not sure if that is enough. I don’t get how they sustain having the entire plot just be them chasing Jack the Ripper and him just getting away over and over again, murdering people throughout time. I liked the grand daughter or relative woman as well and the complication of who she is and what that might mean.
Also, there is no way Jack the Ripper was a doctor or at least there was no way he was someone who could fit into society and behave normally at all. The murders were also not just stabbings. He didn’t just go around stabbing people a couple of times. I understand this is a tv show and they didn’t want to be gross, but there is no way that anyone would think these murders were like the murders of Jack the Ripper.
Also, new shows should not have two hour premiers. There are very few shows that i ever want to watch a two hour episode of and certain not of a new show. It is almost an immediate deal breaker for me. If a show is good, it should be able to introduce itself in an interesting way in one hour.

After seeing the ratings for Timeless (the better show, in my opinion), I wonder if the network just wants to burn through the episodes without giving Time After Time a chance.

The time travel aspect being the only similar thing, but there have been many shows with time travel that do alright like the Flash. Timeless was too slow and the acting wasn’t very good.
I think the acting was better in Time After Time, but there is too much focus on Jack the Ripper. He should be a reoccurring character for the season at most, not a character whose head we get into. I don’t want a show to try and redeem Jack the Ripper. I agree, that Timeless is the better show because the main characters that are given the majority of the screentime, are decent people. It was too slow though. I almost felt like this show was too fast. Also, the historical part of this show was not interesting or was simply not shown. The most interesting part was watching HG interact with the present day and with Jane in the present day.
I would watch this again because i liked HG and Jane, but i think that it should be more episodic. They should help other people. We already know they pop through time because HG met Vanessa in the past and he somehow became her great grandfather/relative. I just think the Jack the Ripper stuff has to take a back burner and we need to not be in that character’s head.
It is probably cancelled anyways and there is no way to fix it at this point. I think shows on NBC are a little too violent and psychotic, whereas shows on ABC are like blah with no interesting characters.
