Like she’s trying to cover something up and failing–much like what her clothing would signal to the audience if this were a domestic abuse story.
Here’s a question for discussion. If the show had taken the domestic abuse story route with CS, do you think that would’ve been an empowering storyline eg showing that even a “strong” woman can be a victim of domestic abuse, or do you think it would’ve made Emma look “weak” because she was previously a “strong” character but is now “allowing” herself to be dominated by Hook?
(When I say “allowing herself to be dominated”, I don’t mean and am not implying that real domestic abuse victims “allow” themselves to be dominated. What I mean is that from an audience point of view and Emma being a fictional character, it’s easy to go “Why doesn’t she just punch him in the face? Why is she giving in to him and letting him do that?” Just wanted to clarify that point so that people don’t take it the wrong way.)
