This is the much anticipated musical episode THE SONG IN YOUR HEART…. what did you like … what did you not like. I am really looking forward to it.

Some parts were cheesy, though that was inevitable! However this really could be the best episode of OUAT this season and perhaps the last two seasons as well! Cast and crew…you guys did it!!! It’s hard to say whose performance was the best, all of them were stellar and stunning, in every way!!
Liked:
I gotta say…I was on the fence with Snowing’s song, but it turned out so much better than I thought! Ginny & Josh served some classic 1930s Disney realness in their duet!!!
“I ruined your parents wedding…least I can do is save yours.” THAT’S CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!!!
Even though I more so expected Regina to belt out something akin to jazzy Chicago, her savage rock star performance was phenomenal!!!! Slay us all Lana!!!!
Hook’s song was amazing….Killian as the Captain was so much more enjoyable than lovesick puppy. Colin clearly had the time of his life!!!
“Rather gouge my eyes out with a fork!!” Why do I have a feeling that was more Bobby than Rumple?!!!
Bex was amazing!!! Though I’ve got a strange feeling Zelena likes to burst into song anyway!! But she was definetly one of the top three!!! And if WickedSisters had teamed up back in the day…they would have dominated!!
That SwanBeliever scene was everything!!! Such Season 1 Feels!!!!!
JMo did that!!!! Acting and singing wise…she did that!!!
The Ceremony and Final Song was wonderful!!!! Hands down…that could’ve and should’ve been the final scene of the entire series!!! A Happy Beginning!!!!
Mixed:
So the Evil Queen poofed from the dwarves, to Gepetto, to Granny’s!!! If Regina could poof anywhere she wanted, like we’ve all suspected….why did she waste so many years hunting Snow White?!!! Not just that, she had the magic mirror who could show her anyone/anything anywhere….why did she play that cat and mouse game when she could’ve just ended it?! This has been my question since Season 1…can we please get an answer!!
So where was Regina’s guards when Snowing came storming in? And she just poofs them back to their castle…like…Regina, girl…you had them right where you wanted them, and Snowing vice versa. Why did Charming just stand there with a sword to her throat, if you’re going to do it, do it! And Regina, sure you couldn’t kill them because of Rumple, but you could have trapped them away in your Dark Forest or something. This just further proves my theory that Regina & the Charmings much preferred their game of cat and mouse, than actually defeating one another! LOL
Disliked:
Okay…let’s not start back up this whole Rumple vs Hook because at this point…you two are borderline family! Just go out, have some coffee, maybe some brunch and talk this thing out.
That wedding dress…just…hmm…no.

episode..
.May 7, 2017 at 8:59 pm #337868RumplesGirlKeymasterGENERAL: Wait. Did we know this would be a musical episode?
Sorry. I had to make that joke. ABC has really exhausted themselves promoting this one; and, honestly, I can’t blame them. It’s a good episode–it’s even be great. Certainly the best of the season so far. But there is something that struck me watching this one for the second time. I don’t know that it’s going to stand the test of time in the same way that Buffy’s “Once More With Feeling” does. I think it was @BarFarer who said it but the thing about the Buffy musical is that it’s relevant at any time because it speaks of emotions that are always relevant: anger, depression, isolation, abuse. OUAT’s musical is–at the bare bones–really just another round of Snowing trying to beat the Evil Queen before the Dark Curse and the songs are the same themes rehashed year after years: Snowing’s ultimate true love, the Evil Queen hates the pair, Hook wants revenge on Rumple, Zelena is jealous, Emma felt alone but now has people!
Don’t get me wrong; it’s still a really good, entertaining hour of TV and I still love it. But will it feel this good 20 years from now when ABC has stopped hyping it? I dunno. I also don’t know how to grade the episode based on possible future feelings so I’m sticking with my original rating.
Rating: 9/10
LIKED
–The cast’s exuberance is catching and infectious. I’m glad they had fun. The past few seasons have seen several of them almost mindlessly running through the all-too-familiar beats so a shake up was a smart way to liven the show up.
–I love that Snow wishes on a star to make this happen. It’s very “Pilot” with Emma wishing on a star to not be alone.
–“Powerful Magic” is sooooo good. Yeah, it’s a bit cheesy but it’s the good kind of cheese. And I love that it opens with a little blue bird tweeting at Snow White. Iconic Disney!
–“And my! Do I sound….good!”
–“I ruined your parents wedding. The least I can do is make sure you get to enjoy yours.”
–Jiminy’s cricket solo might be favorite thing ever. It’s so freaking cute.
–“I’m sorry, dearie. Do you think the Dark One sings? I’d rather scratch my eyes out with a rusty fork.”
–“Revenge Is Gonna Be Mine” has been in my head all week. Colin has a great voice!
–Bex and JMo’s voices are really fantastic.
–“Emma’s Theme,” guys.
–I actually like “A Happy Ending” a bit more the second time around and it’s such a wonderful visual, the entire family/town together.
–Dwarf conga line!
MIXED
–“Emma’s Theme” is still just as powerful the second time I saw it, but honestly would it have killed Emma to say goodbye to her family while they were frozen and not just Hook?
–“The Charmings vs The Evil Queen” is a let down of a song. The writers/song writers should have done something differently there.
–The Dark Curse version 3.0; Emma now has to break that one in two hours? Good special effects and all but the reason why S1 stands out in our minds and hearts is because of how long it took Emma to realize the truth about magic and break the curse. During it in 2 hours seems…slap-dash.
–“I’ve spent centuries collecting little orphans just like you…” Yes, but why?
DISLIKED
–Probably unpopular opinion but I think it was wrong to have this be Emma’s wedding episode as well. This was really Emma’s big self-actualization moment and for that moment to happen and then for the show to say “now go get married!” is a bit…disconcerting. I think the writers should have forgotten the Hook-David-Robert murder nonsense and just had CS get married earlier in the year so that Emma’s big episode doesn’t end with a wedding.
–One more time for the cheap seats in the back: that wedding dress is hideous and we should burn it.
–Emma’s vows kinda make no sense. She didn’t believe she’d ever have true love? Um. Henry? Once again OUAT puts romantic love over everything else.
–It would have killed the writers to have Belle at least be part of the wedding celebrations?
–The spell wears off and everybody will forget everything the next day because…..?
–“Henry, I wasn’t even brave enough to keep you.” This line bothers me the more I think about it. Emma was brave when she gave Henry up to give him his best chance. It wasn’t because she didn’t love him; it was because she was self aware enough to know that she couldn’t give Henry a good life.
–Hook and Rumple get a bit ol’ “ugh” from me. Like, yes Hook has a right to be upset but Rumple also has a right to protect his family, just like Hook is! Just get beyond this, you two and stop with the attempted murder.
Final Thought:
This should be the series finale. It should absolutely end here, without the incoming curse.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 7, 2017 at 9:19 pm #337876AKAParticipantI was not looking forward to this episode as I don’t like “cheese” and this was definitely no Galavant which I enjoyed immensely because yes it was cheesy but also funny and self deprecating. With all that said I was moderately entertained. 7/10
Liked:
Henry had something to do this episode and was Emma’s support system
Emma was acknowledging her family and Henry and not just focused on Hook
Rumple’s I rather gouge my eyes out with a rusty fork was great
I liked Hook’s and Zelena’s songs
Blue actually DID something somewhat useful
Mixed:
So Snow you had Belle scourging Gold’s shop for your wedding dress for you and nobody bothered to invite her, yet again I can totally see Rumple giving up his power and then taking Belle and Gideon and going anywhere but Storybrooke. Belle you have no friends here unless they need something from you.
Hook and Rumple going back and forth again. Yes Hook we know you truly would like to kill him you don’t have to remind us every time you get mad at him.
Emma’s dress made her look frumpy which I didn’t see from the still pictures of it. It was really ugly, and Hook could you please take out the stupid dangly earring for your wedding. It was almost distracting.
Wow we left only two hours to finish off story lines and defeat the black fairy. Maybe we should have cut the musicale episode and just moved the story along.
May 7, 2017 at 9:27 pm #337878RumplesGirlKeymaster“Rather gouge my eyes out with a fork!!” Why do I have a feeling that was more Bobby than Rumple?!!!
Because it’s absolutely Bobby telling the writers to take this idea of Rumple singing and bury it deep underground, lol. We all know Bobby can actually sing.

That would be great but no one recognizes them as family because you know Bae never truly existed. Henry was conceived by some random guy who is dead and must not be mentioned.

I agree with both of you about the continuing Hook vs. Rumple storyline and frankly the whole everyone vs. Rumple storyline. Rumple has a right to defend his family and even to be stupid about it (I don’t trust his mother has his best interests at heart at all) just like everyone else. Haven’t The Charmings and Hook done some dumb and terrible things in the name of love/family themselves? If these screwballs could just have an honest conversation over coffees and bad lasagna at Granny’s than this show could’ve been over years ago.
If Snow can forgive Regina for murdering her father, she can forgive Rumple for manipulating Regina to cast the curse.
If David can forgive Hook for murdering his father, he can forgive Rumple.
Both Hook and Regina as people who have been forgiven SO VERY VERY MUCH, should be able to forgive Rumple.
Really if you look at the people Rumple has actually killed on the show, the only one that directly effects the main cast is Milah and knowing the full story it’s kind of understandable that he kills her when he does. Note that I did not say it was ok. Murder is never ok. But I can understand the reasons behind that one. It’s Charming killing Percival that always mystifies me. Really the whole ‘hero’ side of town is filled with murdering murderers who murder anyway.
And yes that end song could’ve absolutely been the end of the show – if you fill in the gap in between the wedding and everything that happened before it with the missing plotlines and resolutions we still desperately need in order to make that ending feel like a satisfying one.
Exactly.
Plus didn’t Rumple say Gideon and Belle were asleep in the last episode? Does that mean Snow broke in to search the shop or did Belle just happen to wake up in time to oblige her?
As for the songs I loved them! So much better than expected.
And oh gee once again The Charmings are happy to turn Rumple over to Hook to be ‘skinned’, but Snow can’t bring herself to execute Regina who actually murdered her father and tried to murder her… Rumple actually helped The Charmings! Even if it was for his own purposes. Hero logic escapes me as it usually does.
Other than that I loved the past flashbacks with all the singing and I thought having Emma break a curse with song in the present dove-tailed nicely with the flashbacks.
The drawback with the present is The Black Fairy/Stiltskins vs. The Charmings plot …if you’d asked me eight days ago if The Black Fairy was a great villain, I would’ve said yes, but after last week’s episode I’m utterly at sea with what they’re trying to do with her. Is she a loving mother who tried a little too hard to protect her son and ended up going crazy (or something) after unknown centuries in the weird dark time-warp realm or is she just an evil villain who needs to be cut down for the good of all? Am I supposed to feel bad for her like I do Rumple because she was once (and maybe still is underneath all those layers of dark magic) a good person or should I think of her like Malcolm as a person who may have been happy at one time, but was never (as far as I can tell) good?
The writers kind of took the teeth out of The Black Fairy last week and I’m struggling to view her as a serious threat now.
But a great episode over all. Easily one of the most enjoyable in the whole series.

Seriously, we literally saw Regina poof Charming into her dungeon just from watching him in the mirror in one of the season 1 episodes (I think the one where she gives Snow the apple). Like really, come on Regina you could have literally roasted them in their sleep. However I will give the show credit in that by this point The EQ couldn’t actually physically harm Snowing in the FTL because of the potion Rump gave them that prevented them from being killed by her “in this land…but if they were in another land..” yada yada.
But yea.

overall, I really loved this episode. The songs were gloriously campy especially snowings song and it worked well.
Hooks song was perfect and I love hearing Colin sing.
I was surprised by how much I loved wicked always wins, it may be my favorite song from the episode.
All of the Emma and Henry scenes gave me the feels.
Seriously I can’t wait to rewatch!
MIXED:
I wasn’t a big fan of the costumes this episode and normally I love the costumes!
I’m still confused on how Regina knew the potion that randomly turned up in vault would reverse the singing, but eh we’ve had dodgier explanations of magic in the past I guess.
seriously how long were they going to let Emma’s heart stay on the floor, surely I wasn’t the only one thinking PICK IT UP already!!!
DISLIKED
Where was Belle this episode? How does she feel about Rumple siding with his mom, the same woman who tortured their son for years?!?!? And how on earth could Rumple side with her?!? Seriously, I was hoping and am still hoping it’s a long con. I know Rumple will choose power over love but this isn’t that situation, right? Also, he may no longer hate his mom for giving him up, but surely he still doesn’t trust her because of how she treated Gideon? Am I the only person bothered by this? Hello? Anyone? Bueller… bueller? Nope okay…
EDIT: I should clarify, I’m confused because Rumple says he did it to protect his family, but wouldn’t this drive a wedge between him and Belle/Gideon since the black fairy tormented Gideon?
