Well there were things I loved and things I hated about this episode, I give it a 7/10
Liked:
Rumple fixing the chipped cup, will always love Rumbelle and there main symbol has always been and will always be the cup.
Rumple is still Rumple, he knows what is going on, who is keeping secrets, and why. This is what made his character so great in the first couple of season of OUAT. I also liked the fact that while he was clearly unhappy with Regina for keeping this from him, he did not immediately seek revenge on her and instead they had a conversation and decided to try and work together.
Ivy showing some girl power and fighting off her assailant.
Ivy and Regina I think Regina is great in the role of a teacher and Ivy as her student. I wished we would have gotten more of that.
I actually liked the symbolism of the lanterns leading them to home which is each other. It also served as a symbol of Ivy’s need for a guiding light (Anna) in her life. They followed this up with the reminder that Belle was Rumple’s guiding light and Regina wants to be Facilier’s light. Past, present, future that was really well done
Rumple knowing Anna was the guardian (although that will definitely be in my dislikes) and willingly and without any issues letting her go so that she could be with her sister. Rumple has come along way, when he does good things he is closer to Belle. Loved this!
Rumple also showing that he still has some bite also. At the core Rumple is a don’t mess with my family or you will pay the consequences guy and that is still very much the same. He felt like the dark one when talking to Facilier and I like the complexity of Rumple being a good guy but also everyone knowing not to mess with him.
Last week I made a joke about Facilier being the guardian in one of the forums and this week I am not joking, maybe he is the guardian. Maybe he does want the dark one dagger so he can take it away from Rumple so he can become mortal and be reunited with Belle.
I did like the fact that Faclier gave Regina the magic so she could help stop the curse on Henry. I wished we had some backstory on these two because I want to like them together but we have way to little information on how they met, why they are together, and how this fits into Regina’s timeline.
I was very sad to see Ivy go because her character was the best of the season after Alice but I was happy that Ivy and Anna got a happy ending.
Disliked:
When did Anna become the guardian, why is she the guardian, and how does everyone know? Rumple thought she MIGHT be the guardian but we never get the end story of this. Is she the one who was in the land that Rumple was trying to find? They just left this huge story hanging. Another question is she THE guardian or A guardian. How many guardians are there?
Hansel and Gretel: I know this is EF2 but really come up with something else. There are so many fairy tales OUAT can pull from pick ones you have not already done.
So Jack is the one killing witches. Why? This seemed so out of left field that it was anticlimactic. One of the things I used to love about OUAT was that they would give us subtle clues throughout several episodes and then make a big reveal. There were absolutely no connection that I could see that Jack was the one killing witches. Does anyone remember when Peter Pan made breakfast for Rumple and said I made them just how you like them. That was the moment when I went huh that sounds like something a parent would say, and guess what a couple of episodes later we find out he is Rumple’s dad. Whatever happened to this subtle hinting.
Henry/Jack/Rogers: It was clumsy, badly written, and just not good. I could have cared less that they were supposed to be friends because we never really got any backstory on this other than maybe a scene or two. Waste of what little time OUAT has left.
Henry and Jacinda: Another waste of time. They are horrible together without any chemistry. When she walked through the door, I was like yeah saw that one coming. Really Badly Done!!!!! Writers we know they are end game, de-emphasize them completely and spend your time on more interesting characters.
Ivy: Here is a character I actually care about, why not have her stick around awhile longer and give her more of a story instead of doing some wand waving and poof she is gone back to EF2.
