So what we see here I think in all of us isn’t this deep depression because a death has bothered us and shaken us to the core. It’s injustice. It’s frustration. And yes it is mourning too. But it’s mourning Neal AND the show… Something very different than just being upset over the death of a character. It’s the death of a show.

YUP.

Killing his character was more than just  about a stupid ship it tarnished the message and hope of the show in our eyes. You don’t have to agree but please respect that. What are we to take away when all the villains get their second chance and he ends up a victim of his own selflessness. He was a Martyr his entire life and died as one. That’s life. Wonderful message. If I wanted grim fictional realties I’d stick with Game of Thrones. At least the writing and execution is on point with  horrors that take place on that show weekly .

All of this. The death of Neal was gratuitous and killed the message of hope for me. And at  least GoT  is well written from what I can gauge (only read the first book, and I don’t watch the HBO show). For me, Neal’s senseless death was the straw the broke the camel’s back.

Like I’ve said before, Neal’s second chance wasn’t just about romance. It was supposed to be about family. It was supposed to be about establishing healthy patterns. It was supposed to be about reconciliation. Yet, Neal’s final breaths were about none of that. It was about Neal coming so close to seeing his son again that he could taste it, but then he making the same mistake as his father by choosing dark magic. In the end, he let go so his dad could identify Zelena. He became a sacrificial lamb. Again.
