I don’t buy into Neal’s death being a realistic portrayal of our world, nor more than I believe it was bold story telling (come on kill the supposedly least popular third of a love triangle and least popular character in the fandom is a bold story choice, in the words of Emma Swan, Seriously)
Nor do I think it represent the dark side of fairy tales which is another one I hear often. I’m no expert nor do I pretend to be but i know my classic fairy tales . Yes they were dark, particularly the Brother Grimm series, and bloody, but in the end they good guys/gals overcome the hardship/suffering to win in the end while the villains are punish in the worst way possible.
