There’s going to be a price to pay, and I think that price may be losing this next baby to Zelena, but it probably won’t be permanent seeing how this is Snow White we’re talking about. However, you do raise a very excellent point, which is why on earth doesn’t Snow have a hole in her heart that nothing else can fill? Regina couldn’t fill the void in her life for 28 years as a direct consequence of casting the first dark curse. How is it that Snow can remain so open to love, hope, faith, and family after she cast that same dark curse? Regina murdered her father. Snow murdered her husband. It’s probably going to come back to some loophole like Regina killed her dad for revenge whereas Snow killed David, who willingly sacrificed his life, for the sake of saving their baby and getting back to Emma. But it still feels like another glaring double standard whereby Snow White’s heart remains pure and gets to keep her prince.
Now, this is where SF gets involved. Snow committed one of the darkest acts in this universe. Neal did something that a.) he’s never done before and b.) he did to get back to his family. He didn’t want to curse everyone. This is what you call BEING NOBLE. But no, he has to die and stay dead while Charming gets half a heart. WHAT?!
Dark magic always comes with a price, except when it’s convenient. Snow’s heart may be a bit darker now, but she’s not going fully dark nor will she actually die.
The truth is, the price of the Dark Curse only comes into effect when A&E want it to. Simple. As. That.
Sadly, yes. The writers can make Baelfire pay the ultimate price and lose out on his second chance at family because he’s only a second-tier character. It’s the writers’ prerogative. Once again, everyone except for the abandoned kid gets another chance at happiness.
