I don’t think for a moment that Emma will successfully avoid changing anything about the past. Something will go wrong, which is why she will have to try and correct her mistakes, but history will still be altered somehow. I just re-watched BTTF and Marty ended up changing the course of history. Marty managed to warn Doc about getting killed by 30 years in the future. Despite his protests about not wanting to know future outcomes, Past Doc eventually gave in and read the note and avoided death in the future. Other events changed too, like Marty’s dad stood up to Biff and as a result, became successful later in life. Marty’s mom lightened up and became cool. Marty’s brother became a businessman and his sister came out of her shell. History was altered just by Marty, despite Doc’s warnings about tampering with the past. Marty’s very presence was enough to alter outcomes for the better.

Back in the EF of the past, Emma will interact with Rumplestiltiskin. He’ll figure out who she is. Rumple: “You’re not supposed to be here.” He’s going to figure out eventually that his son is dead in the future. And don’t forget the threat that Rumple made to Zelena in 3×20: “No matter where you go in time, I will find a way to kill you.” I’m thinking once Emma lets past Rumple know what Zelena did in the future, past Rumple and Emma are going to find away to defeat past Zelena once and for all, thereby preventing the death of Baelfire in the future.
