I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND EMMA’s desire to run away to NYC.  I think you have to have a whole slew of relatives you would rather do without to understand her feelings.  I think once Emma returns from the past she will have a better understanding of FAMILY DYNAMICS. As an audience we see the whole story but EMMA is in the dark about a lot, she only knows what she has been told; seeing life before her existence should bring her up to speed.
