Golden Swan was immensely popular in season 1. But I think the writers were hinting to the connection between Bae, Emma, and Henry through them. I do miss their interaction. Gold season 1 and season 2 was such a mentor to Emma and like Henry believed in her when she had difficulty believing in herself.
Also Gold told Emma that the stuff inside of her was all her and not him, when she asked what did you put in me after using magic to protect her mother from Cora. Which I thought was pretty powerful and he showed her to use magic with love.
I thought Season 3A we will have more Gold and Emma interaction it organically made sense, both lost their sons at that time and they both loved Neal. But he was conveniently displace during most of Season 3A and suddenly Hook was suppose to be the Neal connection to help foster some sort of bonding between them.
