The worst part is, if they’d just allowed Rumple to remain in character, they could have brought Neal back so easily. Instead we get him not caring that his son died when he was at the height of his obsession to find him, and we get him regresing and dishonouring what Neal would have expected of him in present day. *FLIPS TABLE*
