We do know that MRJ for one questioned the writers and had them explain things to him, but that’s a bit different than one of them straight up saying that they don’t like the direction their character is going, they’re getting less satisfaction from playing it, and can things perhaps change please.
I’ve been thinking about this story from S2 a bit lately. We know A and E explained to MRJ WHY Neal did what he did (because MRJ felt it was out of character for Neal) but I have to wonder what else they told him. “It’ll be okay, cause a season from now, when we’re wrapping 322, you two are going to get back together somehow…”
MRJ is an insightful man. Neal was the one supposed to break the cycle of abandonment and that kind of didn’t happen with Emma. I have no doubt that if he’d known about Henry, he would have never ever in a million years left her (which is probably the reason they wrote it the way they did).
As for the change in the cast’s behaviour, at first I thought I was imagining it, but they’ve gradually become so quiet. Not very enthused at all. At least not about things related to the show. If they do tweet about Once, it’s usually a retweet from ABC or something.
