A total random bit of frustrated randomness rant.

Read something-or-other yesterday, about Grumpy & Nova/Astrid. I was contemplating how pointless their episode was, and further, how odd it seemed to me that A&E pulled that S1 ep out to write, instead of something more pivotal or integral to the story.

Then it dawned on me, the general arch of that story… I have not rewatched, so going off recollection here. Boy meets girl, boy and girl fall in love despite odds. Star-crossed lovers, a bit. Boy and girl make plans for future, plan to meet and run off together, arrange meeting. Before meeting, boy is pulled aside and convinced to let girl go… so that she can fulfill her destiny.

Well whose story does that sound like?!

Wondering, now, if every S1 episode that seemed a little strange or pointless – that was a telling about minor characters – that wasn’t an advancement of the Snowing story – was a re telling off the SF story. We know Price of Gold was; True North, too. And Dreamy?! What else is buried all up in S1 that we missed? Yeah, that rewatch and breakdown/analysis has got to happen. I caught a lot on the rewatch we just did, but clearly not everything. (Guessing this has been discussed before but I am late to the party so…)

Of course, I am torn between awe at the care that went into laying out this story and building frustration at having it tossed away. Really – REALLY you put so much care into crafting a story that you pre-emptively tell MULTIPLE aspects a full season before you introduce one of the characters and then… and then… we end up with a pirate?!?!?! Sigh. Oh, guys, you threw away what has to be one of the most intricately planned out love stories ever told on TV. The amount of planning and foresight that went into this story is mind-boggling, and all for… nothing. Sigh.

Excuse me while I go kick a trash can in frustration. :/

Cause this story needs some mending & a better happy ending...
