The Hook hate is still in full swing in other places (not talking about this forum either), I’ve seen an essay that’s so full of Emma hate in 3B that calling it “anti-Emma” is a bit of an understatement. As usual the cries of “OOC” accompany it.
I find it funny that Hook has been pursuing Emma for a while, but the moment he somewhat stops (because Zelena cursed him), Emma then begins pursuing Hook. Emma in 3B is not the Emma of season 1, 2 or 3A, it’s not because she’s OOC, it’s because between 3A and 3B, Emma has had a year living a happy life with Henry and 11 years worth of false happy memories with Henry.
Emma still has her walls but they are not the same walls. Emma was in an 8 month relationship (lol) with Monkey boy whereas before in Season 1 she told MM that one night stands were as far as she went. Walshe was going to propose and Emma was considering whether or not to say yes because otherwise she would’ve said no straight away, she at least had to think about it.
CaptainSwan would not have worked in the first 2.5 seasons because neither participant was ready for it. Emma was too afraid to open up and leave herself emotionally vulnerable (Neal’s reappearance in her life also made her emotionally confused about how she felt about him) whilst Hook was still too hung up on Milah and revenge and basically a bit too aggressive in his pursuit of Emma.(Aggressive isn’t the right word per se but I can’t think of the right word, he came on to her a bit too strong at times is what I mean). The year apart did both Hook and Emma good especially because “absence makes the heart grow fonder”. Emma had chance to work through some of her issues and make herself more emotionally open whilst Hook learnt that he didn’t have to be so full-on with Emma for her to know how he felt about her. Whereas season 2 and 3A Hook would’ve probably told Emma about giving up the Jolly Roger for her and kept reminding her of it until she gave a reaction he was satisfied with, 3B Hook didn’t mention it at all until Emma SPECIFICALLY ASKED him how he escaped the curse and got to our world. Hook was very humble and modest about it, he wasn’t trying to guilt trip Emma into reciprocating his feelings, giving up the JR was a big gesture from Hook and he was trying to downplay its significance!
Also it was Emma who kissed Hook first and Hook responded, not the other way around.
