Mainly because of the lyrics of the Mother knows Best reprise
Rapunzel knows best
Rapunzel’s so mature now
Such a clever grown-up miss
Rapunzel knows best
Fine, if you’re so sure now
Go ahead, then give him thisThis is why he’s here!
Don’t let him deceive you!
Give it to him, watch, you’ll see!Trust me, my dear
That’s how fast he’ll leave you
I won’t say I told you so …
The lyrics not only sound like a mother warning her daughter about giving up her virginity so easily, but perhaps also a woman who has gone through a very similar experience and is warning a younger woman not to make the same mistakes she did.
Also Gothel makes no reference to Rapunzel having had a father and Rapunzel makes no reference to ever having a father. Gothel would’ve lied about it if she’d mentioned it saying he either left or died, but Flynn seems to be the first man ever that Rapunzel met.
The only time that Gothel mentions men to Rapunzel, it’s as “thugs and ruffians”
Gothel’s view of men seems to be as tools she can use so she might not be a lesbian but she’s not very man friendly.
Also she’s not got a love interest which seems to be one of the reasons for making Elsa a lesbian so why not make Gothel one too?
