I totally agree that if this were traditional fairy tales then all of this would be typical. But…A and E are putting forth Disney Live Action! Once Upon a Time which is why I might hold them to a higher moral standard, this was sold as a family friendly show. ‘Tis not.
I get OUAT is not simply a retelling of traditional fairy tales. The show is its own thing and more closely resembles a teenage fantasy show but with pretty princess sparkly dresses. It may be branded as a family-friendly show by ABC, which is a bit surprising given that the network is owned by Disney, but I’d argue it never fit the bill of “Disneyfication” nor of being suitable for young children. Maybe it’s suitable for families with pre-teens or teens.
