*reads script tease* ROLLS EYES INCREDIBLY HARD
I saw it bc someone RBlog, and i just laugh so much, really, i dont know what is more stupid , the 1st line or the 2nd one , or even the whole conversation.
Also found a review from 401, here is the link: http://ramloth.tumblr.com/post/99056657738/ouat-4×01-reaction-post . From some of the notes i saw i extract this part.
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thought Rumple’s speech at Bae’s grave felt off. Robert Carlyle has got monologue game, but this scene just came across as weird. The writers used it to provide a recap for new viewers. It was too much exposition, not enough emotional honesty. Rumple was too put together. I would have believed it more if he had only said half as much because he couldn’t get the words around his tears. His son is dead. He had said in season 1 that if he lost his boy, he would “truly become dust.” This monologue just didn’t feel congruous with that original sentiment. He seems to be taking Bae’s death a little too well. When Rumple is that smooth, he’s usually manipulating someone. I just can’t think of why Bobby would play it that way.
I had a similar reaction to the dance scene – Rumple is normally a bumbling dork around Belle, and all the finger-snapping and costuming up just seemed… not them. I didn’t like the literal costume translation here, either. The costumes were well-designed (because Eduardo Castro is the best), but I like Belle’s other yellow ballgown so much better, and this is the only time I thought Rumple looked ridiculous. He’s a fierce as fashionista, not a Disney cos-player (and that’s not meant to be a knock against cos-players – I’ve seen better cosplay than Rumple’s blue suit).
Hopefully time will tell and the graveside scene will make more sense in context later. I’m actually looking forward to the inevitable Rumbelle fight. They need a good dose of honest communication. I really need Belle to stand up for herself, and I need the narrative to acknowledge and work through the trauma Rumple has experienced.
Hope everyone is having a great friday.
