I definitely agree with those sentiments…I mean, I’ve heard of “hate-watching” and all, but it’s weird seeing so many people rather obsessed with a show but wanting so badly for it to end. And yeah, no one on the show is perfect. And the people who most often go on anti-Hook tirades are, of course, the ones who ship Emma with someone else. For example, I find it hilarious to see people who want to see Emma with Regina talking about how terrible Hook is. I mean, seriously? Let’s think about this for a second. If Regina were a male character, I highly doubt anyone would be defending her. Why are murder, rape, and child abuse totally forgivable crimes if a woman is the one committing them?

I also bristle at the implication that Emma is too stupid or naive to “see Hook for what he is”. She is very clearly neither of those things, nor is she afraid to tell a guy to bleep off if she doesn’t want him around–look how she reacted when he kissed her in 311 when she had no idea who he was–like mother, like daughter. ;-)

Absolutely! I always think of it the other way as well. If Hook was a woman, would he be garnering as much as hate as he does. Ignore the romantic element (well actually you don’t have to) but if everything Hook did over season 3 in terms of their friendship – encouraging her, standing by her, helping her family, etc – if that was all done by Mulan for example there would not be all the backlash about her being all stalkery or only doing it to get into Emma’s pants. I find that Hook gets a lot of flack just b/c he’s a bloke, which makes absolutely no sense at all.

It is double standards. For example, the whole Regina/Graham relationship was Graham being Regina’s sex slave. Nobody gives Regina that much of a hard time about it. However, if Regina had been a man and Graham a woman, then people would be a lot more critical about it. Whether it has anything to do with the perception that women are the weaker sex, men are more threatening etc, I don’t know but double standards works both ways for men and women positively and negatively.

I do wonder why Hook gets the sheer amount of hate he does as a character. I get not shipping CS, to each their own, but to hate the actual character with such vengeance seems a bit extreme. I don’t ship OQ but I don’t hate Regina or Robin individually as characters.

I didn’t like Hook in season 2 but that was to do with his actions towards Belle rather than his actual character. I liked him in Tallahassee.

Season 3 was good for Hook especially 3B. I don’t get where the “rape culture” comments come from. Compared to Charming’s “Don’t you worry your pretty little head about it” attitude to pregnant Snow, Hook’s attitude towards Emma was pretty much “you go girl!”.

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Interesting ….. I wonder if this is what the Hook “blackmailing” Rumple actually is- a deal to keep quiet about the dagger IF Rumple reattaches his hand…. but something goes wrong- be it on purpose or not with Rumple & thats why he gets his Hook back later…. still 3& 1/2 days to go until 403 …… will have to rewatch 401 & 402 + die of emotion over some of the newest fanvids (will post them here once I track some really good ones down, so everyone can watch ;) )

I hope the “blackmail” is an actual deal or bribe to keep quiet rather than actual blackmail. If Hook makes this an ongoing thing rather than a one off then that puts him equally in the wrong as Rumple
