This is bothering me as well. He made this speech to Neal at his the grave about getting back on the right track, in essence, and then he sees a shiny hat box and it’s all “nope. lol! Just kidding, ma boy!”
I…ehh….they need to explain what he’s doing because right now he’s coming across as just selfish, evil, egotistical, and without a purpose which is decidedly not how they used to write him.
I think the answer is staring at us in the face. That light that kept Rumple human went out when Neal died. Now Rumple has become nihilistic.
