And THIS!
“[Emma] didn’t turn evil after all. So I get to find my happiness.”
Something about this line bothered me when I first watched the episode. Was it the way Hook said it to Rumple, making me believe he’s still the same person (even though I know he is)? Was it because he actually took energy to gloat to Rumple? Was it because I just hate his arrogance in general? I didn’t know… but now I do.
I thought this line was gonna go somewhere along the lines of, “she didn’t turn evil after all. You failed. You can’t change her.” Something Regina or another smart person who cares about Emma would say, but nope! He made this entire conversation about his damn self. I understand that he and Rumple are foes but seriously? Hook doesn’t deserve the title of “changed” because he hasn’t. Everything he does is still for himself. It’s not even for Emma either, it’s for HIM. And this line right here shows it. He wasn’t scared of Emma turning evil because that’ll put her down a dark path and initially ruin her life, he was afraid of her turning evil because HE would lose his so called “happy ending”.
This is what I’ve been trying to say for the longest time, HOOK HAS NOT CHANGED AT ALL. He is still a selfish pirate who is only trying to put up a front for Emma because he believes she is his happy ending. And before you say, “well yeah you do things for people you love” yes, FOR THEM. Not for your own gain. Which is exactly what Hook is doing.
