I don’t get it either. Do they want us to like Hook? They have him be a murdering, serial killer who lies to Emma all the time. Who hides his past and has tried to murder the entire family. None of Emma’s family really thinks well of him. Then they have an episode where they pretend like he is helping Charming and then at the end he finds out he killed Charming’s father and he lies about it again.
If they do want us to root for Hook, they’re not doing a stellar job because we keep getting mixed messages. I used to think the writers were writing CS as a cautionary tale (and some part of me still does), but maybe they’re just trying to have their cake and eat it, too. They want to make drama for drama’s sake by having Hook and Emma have yet another hurdle before they make it to the alter, but the end result is to remind the general audience why Hook and Emma never should have gotten together romantically in the first place.
