Finally got to sit down and watch “The Other Side”
I have some mixed feelings….?
–“I must have missed the election that made you chancellor again!” Bellamy. Okay, I have to admit that I’ve always (really) liked Bellamy up until last season when I thought he went off kilter. He’s been coming back in small spurts, but I really loved him all over again this week. His story with Octavia is so compelling and interesting to watch. And I like that writers are constantly denying Bellamy trying to chose between Clarke and Octavia; it’s Octavia. It’ll always be his sister that he reaches for first.
–Geez, Clarke. You left your mom’s new boyfriend out in the cold to die. That’s harsh.
–I was really irritated by Clarke this week which is surprising because usually I find her super amazing. So once the door opens then Skaikru has to make the hard choice of which people to cast out into the radiation, the same choice the other clans have made. But Clarke refuses to open the door, even though she knows it’s wrong to not, and then has the gall to hide behind “this is about saving the human race.” The heck it is, Clarke Griffin! The bunker can hold about 1300? And Skaikru only has roughly 400? That’s so much wasted space the way Clarke and Jaha have set it up. This whole time she’s been fighting for unity and trying to save as many as possible and now she’s just gonna sit back and let more than half of the world die?
–Not to belabor this Clarke point but she even says “today we have to live with being wrong” when Jaha says that yesterday they thought they were doing the right thing. Then open the door and let people in, Clarke! The writing for Clarke really irritated me this week because she’s usually pretty great, even when making hard choices.
–Okay one more thing…all this back and forth about whether or not to open the door and feeling bad about not opening the door…you could have just opened the door and saved people faster before the radiation got worse! (seriously, irritated) (look! they opened the door! and nothing happens to Skaikru because of all the radiation Jaha and Clarke keep talking about! Except that they have to do the same as the other clans! So no, Clarke. This was never about “saving the human race” it was completely about saving your people, which worked a few years ago when it really was an us vs them mentality but now you’re supposed to be one people, something you’ve been fighting for!)
–“I knew you’d come through.” “I love you so much” (melts into a puddle of Blake-family feels)
–Octavia telling Jaha that Bellamy gets a bed—that’s her version of “I love you”
–Sinclair and Raven! That was excellent. “I don’t chose pain. I chose life.” Raven, sweetie. Could you go talk to the sad sacks who are killing themselves a few doors over? Thanks.
–Speaking of, Jasper’s death was bittersweet and I’m glad it was with Monty since their stories have always overlapped. But I’m really not okay with the mass suicide plot. I agree with @sciencevsmagic that it was frustrating and pathetic. I also think it was a cheap way for the writers to get rid of a lot of Skaikru extras to make room for a more diverse group of people inside the bunker for S5.
