”No story is perfect. It just has to start,” insisted Lucy, the spokes-girl for writers Adam and Eddy. ”Please forgive past and future plot holes/continuity errors and give our reboot a chance,” she might as well have said.
This episode was like watching a person desperately trying to pull themselves out of a deep hole in a muddy swamp, repeatedly losing the will to keep trying after each effort to extract themselves from the mud. Roni, Alice and adult Henry are all the show has to cling on to, but even they are not enough to save the show perhaps. The new Cinderella and step-mother just felt weak…tacky even, and I am just not interested in their story. And yes, we have a new big bad and a new curse with everyone feeling hopeless or feeling like something or somebody is missing, but the sense of urgency didn’t feel strong enough for me, not enough to convince me that the main characters collectively have a new overall goal.
However, the more Lana Parrilla I have on my screen, the better and I look forward to seeing her in the next episode.
Current theories:
Roni will hire Lucy’s mom as a barmaid, and then later give her a bar management position after the curse is broken.
I am not sure who the hero of season 7 is supposed to be. In season 1’s pilot, it was clear that it was Emma, but as the writer, Henry is not allowed to influence the stories, and therefore cannot act as their hero. Meanwhile Cinderella’s actress is too weak and does not have JP’s charisma. Any theories? This curse does not seem to have a ”saviour” built into it, so could be simply Henry and Cinderella waking up and breaking the curse via TLK, and thereby giving Henry his own story. I really hope it is not this because that would be rather boring and predictable.
