Tumblr has just pointed out that that’s the house from Up. Also, that does kind of look like Paradise Falls.
There were some rumors going around that Belle somehow dies of old age in this episode. I didn’t take them seriously initially, but now seeing the Up house in the promo, it’s got me wondering if there’s some truth to these rumors? After all, in Up Carl’s wife Ellie also dies of old age, in the very emotional 1st 10 minutes or so of the film.
So how would Belle dying of old age make any remote sense, when she should still have several decades ahead of her? Well I have 2 theories:
1) Rumple and Belle decide to live their happy ending together in the Dark Realm. They go, because it was Gideon’s wish to go help those there and make it peaceful. Time moves faster in the Dark Realm, so that also explains how Giles Matthey is back as Gideon, and could also explain our Alice is Rumbelle’s daughter theory. One hole to this theory is that couldn’t Rumple use his magic to prolong Belle’s life, but perhaps Belle specifically asks him not to, because she wants to live a normal life, including growuing old, and Rumple being the changed man that he is accepts her wishes.
2) The stuff in the promo with Rumple and Belle takes place in the dream world, and could also explain Gideon’s appearance. Rumple literally dreams about their happy ending, up to the point where Belle is suddenly old, and she dies of old age. Rumple wakes up to find Belle still alive, but now the thought has occurred that Belle is mortal, and that moment of her dying old will eventually become a reality. This leads to Rumple questioning the future of their life together, and whether he can do anything about it.
I’m not sure how to feel about either theory, but if they specifically chose that house to look like the one from Up, then I imagine there has to be a very good reason behind it. The actors and writers have also raved about the episode saying how beautiful it is, and how it is apparently one of the best episodes of the series. The thought that they wouldn’t kill Emma off, but are open to killing Belle off, is very strange to me, though. Especially since Emilie has been much more open about returning, and would have likely agreed to multiple episodes, unlike JMo.
