I think some of this is going to have to be important. You would think who Ella’s biological father was would be important since that was mentioned, otherwise why even have that be a plot point?
The fact that he was mentioned but only that he wasn’t in the picture but not confirmed dead makes me suspicious. That sounds like something the writers would keep open in order to play with it later, if they get more seasons.
