ABC really wants Station 19 to be the new Scandal but I dunno; I see a lot of mixed reactions from people. It doesn’t seem to have a solid enough hook for people to tune in tomorrow.
From what I’ve seen and heard, it’s a blatant ripoff of Chicago Fire. They probably want to attempt to create a Chicago-ish franchise out of Grey’s with similar spinoffs, if Station 19 works. It’s actually premiering against a 2 hour Chicago Fire tomorrow, which NBC surely did to attempt hurting Station 19’s launch. This ties into ABC’s strategy to push for more procedurals. So far it worked for The Good Doctor (medical drama), but failed for Deception (crime drama) and For the People (legal drama). However, I think The Good Doctor worked because 1) Freddie Highmore and 2) the fact that it explores a lead character with Autism, not because it’s a typical medical drama.
