Anything can be revived. You never know when someone will feel a particular need to revisit something that was once on air. However, here are some rubs: –Shows that get revived are beloved. They aren’t revived just because of “writing mistakes.” Will and Grace and Rosanne did not get revived to fix what fans see as a writing mistake in the final episode/season. Will and Grace and Rosanne got revived because they are beloved sitcoms that were groundbreaking in the time of their inception (one for portrayals of the LGBT community and one for portrayals of low income families) –Shows do not get revived in order to fix large swaths of previously written material which may or may not be “wrong.” Fans decide what writing mistakes are; not networks or even the writers. At the time, the writers chose to do a massive flashforward for W/G and to have Dan die in Rosanne. These were fixed only AFTER the fact–only after fans and critics talked about how bad they are. –The writing mistakes of OUAT are only seen as mistakes by their fans; so far, the writers and critics have little to say about these so called mistakes. –When Will and Grace and Rosanne ended, they were still ratings juggernauts. Especially compared to today’s network ratings. When W/G ended, it got almost 19 million eyeballs after an entire season of 7-9 million viewers. OUAT hasn’t had that sort of viewership in years. Rosanne is the same. The idea that OUAT most likely will get revived is..bizarre, as of right now. There’s absolutely no call for it. ABC had it for seven years; they are ready to end it and move on to other things. They have no desire to revive a show that is currently getting a .4 in the demo. It’s not a ratings smash hit and it won’t be so close to it’s ending, were they to revive. If ABC is gonna revive anything, it would be LOST which is still mostly critically acclaimed, still holds a special place in the ABC history, and is still a groundbreaking TV show. In short: –OUAT is not beloved enough as it stands, right now, to get revived, at least not for years and years. –If OUAT were to get revived it wouldn’t be to fix what some perceive as writing mistakes but because there was a genuine need for OUAT’s stories again.
I agree with all your points, Rumpelsgirl. While i think there is no chance of a revival with the same actors, i think there is no chance that the actors who left will ever be on this show again, or the same producers or even with different producers. I would be a big fan of a reboot with different actors, different producers, but the same premise. The whole fairytale characters in the real world, who are real people, with a family focus, and twisting the stories all together, while still making them real people, is still a awesome idea and i would love it if someone would do it again.
Though, there have been lots of shows that have been versions of that over the years.
